Head of Equity Research

Role Overview

We are hiring a seasoned Research Head to steer the equity research vertical for a leading institutional broking setup. This position is based in Mumbai and calls for a strong market leader with 8+ years of experience in capital markets or equity research. The role focuses on shaping the research agenda, leading analysts, producing high-impact investment insights, and contributing directly to business growth through actionable recommendations.

What You Will Do

• Set the direction for the research function so it supports broader business goals.
• Guide, coach, and develop a team of analysts working across sectors and market themes.
• Build and refine research methods, frameworks, and quality benchmarks to keep outputs consistent and credible.
• Introduce improvements in research workflows, analytical tools, and modelling approaches.
• Lead coverage across fundamental and technical analysis for listed companies and sectors.
• Develop high-conviction investment ideas backed by deep financial and industry analysis.
• Track macroeconomic shifts, industry developments, regulatory updates, and market movements.
• Prepare, review, and strengthen thematic reports, sector updates, initiation notes, earnings analyses, and market outlook pieces.
• Offer strategic investment views for clients and internal stakeholders.
• Represent the research team in client discussions, webinars, conferences, and industry forums.
• Support sales and other business teams with practical market intelligence and investment calls.
• Engage with institutional investors, HNIs, and other key stakeholders on market direction and opportunities.
• Conduct investor awareness sessions, webinars, and knowledge-sharing programs.
• Own hiring, training, and performance management for research analysts.
• Assign sector responsibilities and ensure reports are delivered on time.
• Encourage collaboration, ongoing learning, and strong analytical standards within the team.
• Hold periodic review meetings to evaluate research quality and individual performance.
• Ensure all research work complies with relevant regulations and internal governance rules.
• Protect the integrity, objectivity, and ethical standards of the research function.
• Monitor research workflows to make sure compliance requirements are consistently met.
• Review publications before they are shared externally.
• Work closely with Sales, Wealth Management, Asset Management, Investment Banking, and other teams.
• Present research findings and market outlooks to senior leadership.
• Build and maintain relationships with company management teams, industry experts, institutional investors, and market participants.

Experience and Qualifications

• An MBA in Finance, CA, CFA, FRM, or a comparable qualification is required.
• SEBI Research Analyst registration or certification is preferred.
• Strong capability in financial modelling and valuation is preferred.
• Applicants should bring 8+ years of experience in equity research, investment research, asset management, institutional research, or capital markets.
• At least 3 years should include leading and managing research teams.
• A proven history of stock picking, sector analysis, and investment recommendation work is expected.
• Prior exposure to institutional investors, HNIs, and senior corporate leadership is important.
