Head of Digital Operations

Role overview

The Head of Digital Operations will take overall ownership of the organisation’s digital and operational technology environment. This role is responsible for making sure that systems, infrastructure, data, and technology processes actively support growth, efficiency, and strong day-to-day performance.

You will oversee enterprise applications, infrastructure, data governance, systems integration, cybersecurity, and the management of external IT vendors.

Core responsibilities

• Set and own the technology roadmap and the wider digital transformation agenda.
• Serve as the main decision-maker for technology programmes that involve multiple teams and functions.
• Build and maintain governance, risk oversight, and project review structures.
• Work with senior leadership to shape technology spend and business investment proposals.
• Lead the rollout, improvement, and ongoing support of key business platforms such as CRM, scheduling, production, and finance systems.
• Improve systems connectivity and reduce reliance on manual work and spreadsheet-based processes.
• Handle relationships with software suppliers and implementation partners.
• Create and enforce data governance practices that protect data quality, consistency, and accuracy.
• Develop reporting and business intelligence tools that inform operational and financial decisions.
• Lead projects related to data migration and data standardisation.
• Oversee IT infrastructure, including networks, servers, user devices, backups, and disaster recovery arrangements.
• Ensure systems remain reliable, secure, and aligned with data protection obligations.
• Run cybersecurity programmes, audits, and risk-reduction actions.
• Manage outsourced IT support providers and other key technology suppliers.
• Set, track, and review service levels, performance measures, contracts, and renewal cycles.
• Lead training, documentation, and continuous process improvement efforts.

Requirements

• At least 8 years of experience in a senior IT leadership, digital operations, or systems management position.
• Demonstrated success delivering complex system implementations and integrations.
• Strong knowledge of infrastructure, networking, cybersecurity, disaster recovery, and cloud-based technologies.
• Prior experience managing managed service providers and external technology vendors.
• Excellent project leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
• Background in manufacturing, production, or other operational settings.
• Working knowledge of SQL databases and data management practices.
• Strong commercial judgement and confident decision-making skills.
• Highly organised with a strong eye for detail.
