Role overview

Queensland Pathways State College (QPSC) offers a flexible, future-oriented senior schooling program for young people aged 15 to 18. The model is built around personalised learning, trusted relationships and tailored support to help students reconnect with education, build on their strengths and move confidently into further study, training or work.

We are looking for an inventive and team-focused Head of Department to lead the digital renewal of QPSC’s Vocational Education and Training (VET) curriculum. This position is based at the Coorparoo Campus and will steer the shift from print-based resources to high-quality, accessible online learning delivered through the QLearn platform.

What the role will focus on

You will guide the conversion of QPSC’s VET, literacy and numeracy curriculum into QLearn, creating a consistent and engaging online learning experience for students across nine campuses and supporting statewide online delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Drive the move of existing VET learning materials from printed booklets into the QLearn digital environment.
• Build modern, inclusive and engaging online learning experiences that follow strong digital pedagogy practices.
• Check, improve and quality-assure curriculum materials so they align with national training package standards, QCAA expectations where relevant, and school quality benchmarks.
• Work closely with the Senior Leadership Team, teachers and curriculum specialists to keep learning content up to date and relevant.
• Create consistent templates, design rules and development processes for online courses across all VET programs.
• Integrate interactive activities, formative checks, multimedia assets and learner supports to improve engagement and learning outcomes.
• Make sure all online courses meet accessibility standards and universal design principles.
• Coach and support teachers in using QLearn effectively and in applying strong online teaching practices.
• Track project milestones and manage curriculum development priorities to meet deadlines.
• Review how well online courses are working and refine them based on feedback from students and teachers.

Desired capabilities

• Deep understanding of VET curriculum, competency-based training and assessment.
• Experience developing online learning through learning management systems, with QLearn experience highly regarded.
• Strong instructional design ability and the capacity to convert traditional learning resources into effective digital courses.
• Well-developed project management and planning skills with the ability to handle several priorities at once.
• Strong written communication skills and careful attention to detail.
• Ability to develop collaborative working relationships and influence curriculum change across multiple campuses.
• Good analytical thinking and a strong focus on continuous improvement.
• Proactive and innovative use of technology to improve teaching and learning.
