Role Overview

The Head of Department (HOD) for Humanities with a focus on Geography plays a vital leadership role in the academic team, working directly under the Director of Academics (DoA). This position involves strategic planning, curriculum management, staff supervision, and administrative coordination to ensure the department operates efficiently and aligns with the school's vision.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate actively as a member of both the School Management Committee and Curriculum Meetings to provide updates and contribute to policymaking related to curriculum and school operations.
• Develop and implement strategic plans that align department objectives with the overarching school strategies, ensuring consistent communication and execution of school policies within the department's scope.
• Oversee the planning, coordination, and delivery of curriculum content and skills for the designated subject areas, ensuring relevance and alignment with the school's mission and objectives.
• Design, review, and manage comprehensive instructional programs, including remedial and enrichment initiatives tailored to student needs.
• Vet and moderate examination and test papers to maintain academic standards and fairness.
• Analyze student performance data, identifying trends and areas for improvement within the subject disciplines.
• Support professional development by guiding teachers towards suitable learning opportunities, collaborating with Subject Heads, Curriculum Specialists, and Senior Teachers.
• Mentor and supervise teaching staff through classroom observations, induction programs for new or relief teachers, and ongoing workshops focused on curriculum and pedagogy enhancement.
• Manage the selection and preparation of instructional materials, including textbooks and multimedia resources, promoting their effective application in classroom settings.
• Conduct performance appraisals and staff rankings for teachers and support personnel within the department.
• Coordinate and oversee the responsibilities of Subject Heads under the department, ensuring coherent operations.
• Assist the Dean in recruitment processes by evaluating and selecting qualified teaching candidates to strengthen the department.
• Advise the DoA on professional and academic matters concerning the subject area.
• Support budget planning and monitoring for the department's expenditures in collaboration with the DoA.
• Facilitate coordination among various staff and stakeholders for successful execution of academic events and initiatives within the academy.
