Position Overview
An exceptional opportunity exists for an experienced primary educator with proven leadership skills and cultural sensitivity to join Tagai State College as the Head of Campus at the Yorke Island Campus (Masig Island). This permanent role commences in Term 3, 2026, and involves leading a unique educational environment serving indigenous communities.
About Tagai State College
Yorke Island Campus is one of 16 primary educational centers within Tagai State College, which spans 48,000 square kilometers across the Torres Strait. The College comprises primary and secondary campuses and collaborates with the TAFE campus on Thursday Island.
The Masig Campus currently enrolls around 45 students from Kindergarten to Year 6. The staff includes two teachers, teacher aides, local personnel, and a teaching Head of Campus, reporting to the Head of School based on Thursday Island. Most students are English language learners.
Yorke Island itself is a coral cay located in the eastern sector of the central Torres Strait island group, measuring 2.7 km in length and 800 m at its broadest point, with a community of approximately 250 residents. The traditional language spoken is a local dialect of Kalaw Lagaw Ya.
