About Wynn Al Marjan Island
Slated to open in spring 2027 in the United Arab Emirates, Wynn Al Marjan Island is a luxury beachside destination designed to offer guests refined entertainment and relaxation. Situated less than an hour from Dubai International Airport, this integrated resort under construction includes 1,530 rooms and suites, 22 dining venues, a theatre, nightclub, and a five-star spa on an island curving into the Arabian Gulf.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Head of Automation to lead the entertainment administration team, overseeing all automated stage and communication systems during rehearsals and performances.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct employee performance reviews and manage hiring and training processes.
- Lead the team to ensure the safe and reliable operation of automation and communications systems throughout each show.
- Collaborate with production teams to assist in load-in logistics and the creative rehearsal stages.
- Design strategies and plans for system installation, safety protocols, staff training, and ongoing operation.
- Program and operate automated stage machinery and fluid hydraulic systems via communications consoles.
- Supervise and troubleshoot automation and communications systems during rehearsals and live performances.
- Install, assemble, rig, and repair automation components and automated show elements.
- Maintain detailed documentation of system specifications, materials inventory, and inspection and maintenance records.
- Continuously monitor all show automation and communication systems to maintain safety standards.
- Participate in the development and continual inspection of automation and hydraulic fluid system installations.
- Support performers by guiding their interaction with show elements and technical crew.
- Assist the Executive Director of Technical Operations in fostering a productive and cost-effective work environment.
- Prepare annual budgets, manage departmental finances, and supervise supplies and consumables inventory.
- Coordinate with the Resident Director regarding show modifications and ongoing improvements.
- Develop emergency procedures for show systems alongside Stage Management and technical staff, ensuring team training and preparedness.
- Provide cost-efficient solutions to automation and communication challenges that preserve show quality and maximize investment returns.
- Document all system operations, show cues, and changes daily through rehearsal and performances.
- Communicate with system manufacturers for updates, maintenance, and repairs.
- Schedule and oversee maintenance tasks, rehearsals, and show calls; manage staff payroll accordingly.
- Create and maintain training programs and contingency plans to guarantee operational continuity.
- Implement a Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) process for personnel, systems, and equipment.
Candidate Profile
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- At least seven years' experience leading automation for large-scale theatrical or production shows.
- Proficient with contemporary theatrical automation and communication systems for installation, usage, and troubleshooting.
- Experienced with modern fluid power equipment such as hydraulic valves and pumps.
- Skilled in flying effects for artists and theatrical rigging.
- Knowledgeable about electronics, conduits, battery packs, wire terminals, sensors, networks, and communication consoles.
- Understanding of automation hardware and fluid systems.
- Familiarity with Navigator software is preferred.
- Willingness and ability to acquire or update lifesaving, CPR, and First Responder certifications.
- Comfort and experience working at height in theatrical environments.
- Commitment to continued education and industry knowledge updates.
- Capable of bridging gaps between backstage and onstage staff.
- Ability to effectively work with diverse cultures and backgrounds.
- Possession of relevant OSHA, IOSH, or equivalent industry standard safety qualifications.
