Job summary
The Group Senior Contracts and Commercial Director will oversee the full spectrum of contract and commercial operations across the organization. The role is focused on securing strong contractual outcomes, controlling commercial risk, maintaining budget discipline, and shaping strategies that support expansion and business performance. It also includes team leadership and ensuring all work is aligned with legal requirements and internal policies.
This position calls for a robust international commercial background, ideally backed by a Quantity Surveying qualification or a professional chartership, along with substantial experience handling complex, large-scale commercial functions.
Contracts and commercial management
- Direct the negotiation, preparation, and administration of contracts.
- Make sure agreements are both legally sound and commercially advantageous.
- Track contract delivery and verify that all parties are meeting obligations and KPIs.
- Handle disputes and claims in a structured and effective manner.
Strategy and risk
- Create and roll out commercial plans that support organizational objectives.
- Spot and control commercial exposure within contracts and projects.
- Research the market to identify sector developments and business opportunities.
Financial and performance management
- Oversee budgets linked to contract and commercial activities.
- Maintain cost control and support strong financial outcomes.
- Supervise commercial reporting and performance monitoring.
Compliance and governance
- Ensure adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and company procedures.
- Apply appropriate contract standards, including FIDIC, QCS, and other relevant formats.
Leadership and stakeholder management
- Lead, coach, and develop the contracts and commercial team.
- Maintain clear and effective communication with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Contribute to business growth and improved operational efficiency.
Required knowledge and skills
- Strong background in international commercial operations.
- Degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline; professional chartership is preferred.
- Deep familiarity with contract forms such as FIDIC and other bespoke agreements.
- Working knowledge of tendering, contract procedures, and Qatar Construction Specifications (QCS).
- Demonstrated ability in high-value and complex commercial negotiations.
- Solid grasp of budgeting, financial reporting, and contract law.
- Exposure to ERP platforms, with SAP experience preferred.
Experience requirements
- A minimum of 15 years of total professional experience is required.
- At least 10 years should be at management or leadership level.
- Overall experience of 10 to 15 years may be considered depending on the level of the role.
- GCC experience of 5 years or more is preferred.
