The Business Integrity and Compliance (BIC) team at Qantas is responsible for administering an effective compliance program that promotes ethical behavior among employees and partners, adhering to laws, company policies, and standards across all jurisdictions where Qantas operates. Key areas include anti-bribery and anti-corruption, sanctions, conflicts of interest, and human rights including modern slavery.

Key Responsibilities

The Group Manager will play a pivotal role in advancing the Group’s sanctions compliance framework and advising on complex, multinational sanctions regulations. This position will also lend expertise across multiple business integrity risk domains. Responsibilities include:

• Driving the continuous development and execution of the sanctions compliance program, encompassing policies, standards, risk management, governance, and escalation procedures.
• Delivering expert guidance on diverse global sanctions regimes, regulatory updates, and enforcement patterns, turning these into operational, risk-focused recommendations.
• Counseling senior leadership and governance bodies on risks linked to sanctions from operating activities, transactions, partnerships, supply chains, and third-party associations.
• Leading detailed sanctions risk evaluations and enhanced due diligence processes while integrating integrity and conduct risks in broader business contexts.
• Applying expert knowledge in other business integrity areas such as anti-bribery & corruption, conflicts of interest, and modern slavery.
• Enhancing organisational competency by designing and delivering training, support materials, and raising awareness, particularly around sanctions and related integrity issues.
• Contributing to departmental and board-level governance reports and compliance updates.

Candidate Profile

• Over 10 years’ experience in risk and compliance roles within complex, regulated, or international environments.
• Strong expertise in sanctions compliance, including participation in the creation, implementation, or significant enhancement of sanctions compliance programs.
• Practical experience with business integrity domains like anti-bribery, corruption, conflicts of interest, or ethical conduct risk management.
• Comprehensive knowledge of global sanctions laws (including Australian, US OFAC, UK OFSI, EU, and UN regimes) and the ability to interpret and apply complex regulations into practical business solutions.
• Capability to analyze complicated scenarios, construct risk assessments, apply regulatory frameworks, and exercise sound judgment in sensitive or unclear situations.
• Experience advising senior leaders and preparing executive and board-level reports.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills with a capacity to provide credible constructive feedback.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to simplify complex regulatory information for business use.
• Track record of developing and delivering global sanctions training programs.
• Tertiary qualifications relevant to the field are advantageous but not mandatory.
