Job description

Role Overview

Metabit is looking for a senior Group Finance Director to own and develop the global finance function as the firm scales into a leading quantitative hedge fund. Based in Hong Kong or Singapore and reporting to the Group Chief Operating Officer, this role will work directly with executive leaders, the General Counsel, and other senior stakeholders to shape and run a strong global corporate and fund structure, while creating a finance platform that can support institutional growth across the group.

This is a hands-on leadership role covering the full finance stack across the group’s holding company, employment entities, service entities, and core operating businesses. The remit includes corporate accounting, fund accounting, tax, treasury, procurement, budgeting, reporting, audit, and finance operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with the COO and executive team to scale and professionalise a world-class quantitative hedge fund platform with strong finance, control, and operating discipline.
  • Collaborate with the COO and General Counsel on the creation, implementation, and ongoing refinement of the group’s global corporate, fund, and operating structure, including management entities, regulated entities, employment companies, and service companies.
  • Build, manage, and continuously improve the Group Finance function across corporate accounting, fund accounting, taxation, treasury, procurement, budgeting, financial reporting, audit, and finance operations.
  • Put in place institutional-level controls, policies, governance standards, and reporting frameworks across the group’s entities and fund structures.
  • Run monthly, quarterly, and annual close cycles across applicable entities, including management reporting, consolidated reporting, statutory reporting, and board or executive reporting packs.
  • Own the finance workstream for new entity setup, fund launches, office expansion, and wider strategic build-out, working with the COO, GC, and external advisors.
  • Manage relationships with auditors, tax advisors, fund administrators, banking partners, and other key finance and control service providers.
  • Oversee fund finance activities such as NAV review, capital movements, management and incentive fee processing, expense allocations, investor reporting support, and administrator oversight.
  • Lead the group’s tax and transfer pricing strategy, including cross-border structuring support, tax risk management, and robust recharge models across entities and jurisdictions.
  • Create budgeting, forecasting, and business planning processes that support both day-to-day financial control and longer-term decision-making by leadership.
  • Partner with Treasury on capital, liquidity, cash, and banking requirements.
  • Drive finance systems, process optimisation, automation, and data quality improvements to support a scalable, high-quality operating model.
  • Support vendor management and procurement discipline, including financial assessment, budget impact, and ongoing cost control.
  • Hire, lead, and develop a high-performing finance team over time, while also building the right network of external advisors and service providers as the firm grows.

Candidate Profile

The right candidate will be a senior finance executive with deep experience in capital markets and alternative investments, strong technical capability, and a proven history of improving finance infrastructure in complex, multi-entity environments. The role suits someone who can balance strategic thinking with day-to-day execution, works comfortably in fast-moving trading or hedge fund settings, and can partner closely with founders and a COO on both structure and implementation.

Experience with China-linked operating models and cross-border structuring would be a strong plus, especially where onshore-offshore coordination adds finance, tax, or governance complexity.

Preferred Experience

  • 15 to 20 years of progressive experience in finance and accounting, including substantial time in senior leadership roles such as CFO, Finance Director, Controller, or similar.
  • Background with large, respected hedge funds, multi-manager platforms, proprietary trading organisations, or comparable institutions with strong governance and institutional controls.
  • Hands-on responsibility for both management company and fund-level finance, including corporate accounting, fund accounting, reporting, tax, and treasury.
  • Experience with multi-jurisdiction structures such as offshore holding companies, regulated entities, employment companies, service companies, master-feeder funds, and cross-border tax and regulatory matters.
  • Exposure to Asia-based structures and cross-border operating environments is highly relevant.

Qualifications

  • Professional accounting qualification such as CPA, CA, or ACCA is strongly preferred.
  • An additional CFA or an MBA in Finance would be an advantage.
  • Strong command of accounting frameworks such as IFRS or US GAAP, along with hedge fund and fund accounting conventions and relevant tax concepts for trading and investment structures.
  • Proven ability to design and implement finance processes, systems, and controls suitable for a scaling institutional investment business.

Core Competencies

  • Commercial, ownership-driven mindset with the ability to convert financial analysis into clear recommendations for senior leadership.
  • Strong stakeholder management and credibility with founders, traders or portfolio managers, investors, auditors, administrators, banks, regulators, and external advisors.
  • High integrity, sound judgment, and a strong control orientation, with a track record of clean audits, timely reporting, and disciplined governance.
  • Comfort working both strategically and operationally, including the ability to dive into detail while keeping the broader platform and long-term objectives in view.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, develop, and lead finance teams, and to strengthen both talent and external advisor capability as the platform scales.
