Job Overview

SpaceX is seeking a Graphic Designer specializing in Merchandising to create and develop a variety of products for our online store. This role involves designing items such as apparel, mission patches, soft goods, and tech accessories. You will collaborate closely with engineers and other departments to produce designs that cater to both customer and employee needs. This is a unique opportunity to contribute fresh ideas and designs to SpaceX, supporting our mission to inspire the public about space travel and establish multiplanetary life.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the merchandise team to conceptualize and design new products, leveraging key company milestones to guide design strategy.
• Create designs for customer gifting items, including mission patches, signing gifts, and event-specific products for conferences.
• Manage the entire product design lifecycle from initial concept through to production handover, ensuring all new products meet their scheduled release dates.
• Work closely with the customer team to develop company mission patches, providing various file formats suitable for different applications.
• Develop and maintain technical specifications, including tech packs, fit charts, color standards, and fabric details.
• Assist in the creation and production of graphics, typography, and layouts for social media, web, and print materials.
• Effectively manage multiple projects and tasks of varying complexity, ensuring timely completion and performing well under pressure.
• Prepare final designs for production, including detailed specifications for printers and vendors.
• Play a key role in shaping the brand's identity through the development of merchandising.

Basic Qualifications

• Hold a Bachelor's degree in a design or artistic discipline.
• Possess at least 5 years of professional experience in product, graphic, and merchandise design.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Present an impressive design portfolio showcasing merchandise and graphic design work.
• Demonstrate strong organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and a proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under deadline pressure.
• Have successful experience working within a fast-paced, dynamic, and results-driven team environment.
• Exhibit advanced proficiency in graphic design software, including Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator).
• Possess strong verbal and written communication skills, excellent cross-functional collaboration abilities, and the capacity to influence key stakeholders.
• Show a demonstrated history of successful design implementation, effective integration of feedback, and on-time project delivery.
• Exhibit a strong sense of trends and design, with an exceptional aesthetic, preferably with experience in the fashion/apparel sector.
• Have experience in image retouching for both digital and print media.
• Be capable of developing creative, original, and cost-effective design solutions that align with business objectives.

Additional Requirements

• Availability to work extended hours and/or weekends as required, with potential for occasional travel to events.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation is structured into two levels:

• Level I: $85,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
• Level II: $95,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year

The final level and base salary will be determined individually based on factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience. The total rewards package extends beyond base salary and may include long-term incentives like company stock, stock options, or long-term cash awards. Employees may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses and a discounted Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Comprehensive benefits include medical, vision, and dental coverage, a 401(k) retirement plan, short and long-term disability insurance, life insurance, paid parental leave, and various other discounts and perks. Paid vacation accrues at 3 weeks per year, with eligibility for 10 or more paid holidays annually. Paid sick leave is accrued in accordance with company policy, meeting or exceeding legal requirements.
