About the School
The King’s School, Canterbury is a highly regarded independent school with a long-standing musical tradition. It is inviting applications for a Graduate Musician in Residence to begin in September 2026.
This opportunity is aimed at a recent music graduate who wants a rewarding year in a busy school environment. It may also appeal to someone weighing up a future career in music education or performance, as the post offers broad experience across many aspects of school music.
Role Overview
The successful candidate will help support the everyday work of a busy and varied Music Department. The post combines practical involvement in ensembles, choral work, and student support, with the chance to gain insight into school-based music education.
Responsibilities
You will assist with chamber groups, support sectional rehearsals for orchestral ensembles, and contribute to the choral programme. This includes involvement in the weekly sung worship held in Canterbury Cathedral.
In addition, the role involves supervising individual practice, helping coordinate music scholars’ timetables, and lending classroom support where needed.

Depending on the right applicant, there may be scope to help with academic Music teaching. This could be especially valuable for anyone considering school teaching as a long-term career option.

Recruitment is carried out through a fair, thorough, and consistent process aligned with statutory Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance, and shortlisted candidates will be subject to online checks.
