Job description

About sensmore

sensmore is innovating the automation of the world's largest heavy machinery using advanced Physical AI technology. Our solutions enable machines like wheel loaders to adapt instantly to changing environments and perform new tasks without prior training. We blend robotics and AI to enhance productivity and safety in mining, construction, and related sectors.

Role Overview

We invite recent graduates with Formula Student experience in hardware to join our team developing autonomous systems for mining, quarrying, and construction environments. The role involves designing, integrating, and testing electrical-mechanical systems—including sensors, computing units, and wiring—that enable heavy machines to operate autonomously under harsh conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Integrate and calibrate robotic sensors such as LiDAR, radar, cameras, and IMUs on heavy machinery, ensuring secure mounting, wiring, and effective data acquisition.
  • Engineer mechanical integrations for equipment exposed to dust, mud, and vibration designed to endure continuous heavy use.
  • Design durable wire harnesses and connectors using robust industrial and automotive-grade components.
  • Develop and validate hardware interfaces connecting actuators, sensors, and control systems.
  • Collaborate closely with software teams to ensure hardware and autonomy software operate seamlessly as a unified system.
  • Perform field troubleshooting addressing EMI, power management, and signal integrity issues on operational machines.
  • Lead designs through concept, prototyping, testing, and scalable manufacturing stages.

Candidate Profile

  • Hands-on Formula Student experience with electronics, LV/HV systems, harness design, sensor integration, or vehicle assembly; leadership roles or driverless team involvement are highly valued.
  • Completed or near-completion Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics Engineering, Robotics, or similar discipline.
  • Proficient in CAD software for electrical or mechanical design and experienced with prototyping methods such as 3D printing.
  • Practical knowledge of embedded systems, microcontrollers, and communication protocols (especially CAN).
  • Experience working with rugged connectors and wiring suited for vibration and outdoor environments.
  • Flexible and hands-on approach akin to Formula Student culture, comfortable transitioning amongst CAD, soldering, and whiteboarding tasks.

Desirable Skills

  • Programming skills in Python, C++, or embedded firmware development.
  • Fundamental understanding of actuators, motors, and closed-loop control systems.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes including assembly, testing, and quality assurance.
  • Exposure to autonomy frameworks or industrial robotic platforms.

Why Join sensmore After Formula Student?

  • Apply engineering skills to real-world large-scale machines operating in active production environments.
  • Full ownership of designs from initial concept through deployment without handoffs.
  • Work in a nimble, hands-on team with rapid iteration cycles and a supportive culture.
  • Opportunity to engage with both detailed design and architecture levels, mirroring module lead experiences.

Benefits and Perks

  • Competitive salary and stock options.
  • On-site beverages and frequent social gatherings promoting a positive work environment.
  • Relocation assistance to Berlin to support the transition.
  • Collaborate with a team of leading researchers and engineers shaping the future of robotic technology.
  • Enjoy a modern office space with a vibrant team culture.
