Job description

About the role

Arup works on some of the world’s most ambitious and recognisable projects across infrastructure, building design, and specialist technical services. As an independent, purpose-led organisation, it brings together designers, engineers, consultants, and technical specialists to create positive change. The company focuses on integrated, sustainable solutions that help shape cities and complex urban and rural environments for the future.

What you’ll do

Reporting to the Graphic Communications Lead and working within the Graphic Communications Team, the Graduate Designer will support CPD teams through the Integrated Delivery team. The team is responsible for producing and maintaining high-quality visual content across CPD, including bid artwork, competition material, project graphics, layout work, exhibition design, and marketing collateral.

In this role, you will contribute to a range of design tasks such as infographics, diagrams, page layouts, illustrative plans, visual graphics, simple visualisations, and presentation materials.

What we’re looking for

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in graphic design, architectural design, or another spatial design discipline, backed by a portfolio that includes university work and demonstrates strong visual communication. You should be comfortable using Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, and be able to talk through and present your work confidently with colleagues.

This position calls for a broad mix of technical and interpersonal strengths. Essential experience includes Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop, along with desktop publishing for print and digital outputs, vector-based image creation, and visualisation or rendering work. Helpful extras include Microsoft Office skills and storyboarding tools such as Miro or similar platforms.

Applicants should have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Graphic Design, Architecture, Spatial Design, or Landscape Architecture. Strong team communication, a solid understanding of graphic design principles, excellent planning and organisation, self-motivation, and a willingness to take on new challenges are all important. You should be able to work independently as well as in a large team, have an interest in infrastructure and building projects, and be proficient in Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office.

Who thrives here

Arup is looking for people who care about sustainable development and want to make a meaningful difference. The team values fresh thinking, curiosity, a growth mindset, adaptability, and a willingness to challenge existing ideas while learning new ways of working.

Application requirements

To be considered, you must upload evidence of your work, such as a sample portfolio or website link. The portfolio must be submitted as a PDF file and must not exceed 20MB. Using image compression and vector graphics where possible is recommended to keep the file size manageable without reducing quality. The portfolio should be uploaded in the supporting documents section of the application.

If application volumes are high, the role may close before the listed deadline, so early submission is encouraged. You may also be asked to indicate which Arup office locations you would be interested in, as there may be other suitable opportunities aligned with your profile.

Only one application is allowed per recruitment cycle, so candidates should review the available openings carefully and choose the role and location that best match their skills and interests.

Eligibility

This position does not offer visa sponsorship. You must already have the right to work permanently in the UK without requiring sponsorship.

Key dates

The expected start date is September 2026. The application deadline is 26 June 2026.

Additional information

Arup’s Graphic Communications Team supports visual output across a wide range of work, including bids, competitions, projects, exhibitions, and marketing. The role sits within a fast-paced environment where good organisation, strong planning, and a collaborative mindset are essential.
