Role summary

Johnvents Group is seeking a senior risk leader to build and run the enterprise risk management function across its international business footprint. This position will create the governance, controls, and reporting needed to manage trading exposure, operational threats, working capital use, capital investment risk, and regulatory obligations across the group. The role is central to protecting profitability, capital efficiency, business continuity, and the confidence of lenders and other stakeholders.

Geographic scope

The remit spans operations in Africa, including Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Tanzania, Togo, and Mozambique, as well as international business in Dubai, Canada, India, and Southeast Asia.

Business coverage

  • Commodity trading in cocoa, cashew, sesame, legumes, and edible nuts.
  • Processing and manufacturing across cocoa, cashew, edible oil refining, sesame, and animal feed production.
  • FMCG activities covering beverage products, cocoa powder, seasonings, and creamers.
  • Logistics and supply chain operations, including fleet, warehousing, and distribution.
  • Capital investment programs such as plant expansions, manufacturing facilities, and logistics infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

  • Build and deploy the enterprise risk management framework across the group.
  • Set risk appetite, exposure thresholds, and escalation processes.
  • Create tools, controls, and governance structures for risk tracking and oversight.
  • Chair or lead the risk committee and broader risk governance process.
  • Work closely with business heads, finance, and operations teams on risk coordination.
  • Provide executive leadership with risk insights that support strategic decisions.
  • Track commodity trading exposure, position limits, hedge structures, broker exposure, and price volatility.
  • Monitor margin requirements and related trading risk indicators.
  • Oversee working capital risk through cash conversion cycle, inventory ageing, and trade finance usage.
  • Assess capital deployment, liquidity position, and cash efficiency.
  • Watch covenant compliance, lender reporting, disclosures, and capital-raising readiness.
  • Manage supplier reliability, counterparty risk, origin concentration, shipment disruptions, and warehouse exposure.
  • Review manufacturing performance, plant utilization, yield, food safety, and operational compliance.
  • Track risks in FMCG demand planning, stock levels, distributor performance, expiry, and regulatory compliance.
  • Assess logistics risks around fleet utilization, transport efficiency, cargo loss, safety, and operational disruption.
  • Monitor capital project timelines, budgets, commissioning risks, and readiness gaps.
  • Track ESG commitments tied to financing and export requirements, along with certification and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards for trading, margins, working capital, operations, FMCG, logistics, capital projects, and enterprise-wide key risk indicators.
  • Build and lead the risk team, including hiring, coaching, budgeting, and resource planning.
  • Promote risk awareness and deliver training across business units.

Reporting and dashboard scope

  • Commodity exposure dashboard for trading positions, hedge coverage, and price risk.
  • Margin and profitability dashboard for gross margin, net contribution, and variance analysis.
  • Working capital dashboard for C2C, inventory days, receivables, and payables.
  • Operational dashboard for factory utilization, yield, and disruptions.
  • FMCG dashboard for sales performance, inventory ageing, and expiry risk.
  • Logistics dashboard for fleet use, shipment delays, and cargo loss.
  • Capital project dashboard for timelines, budget control, and commissioning readiness.
  • Enterprise dashboard for consolidated risk indicators across all units.

Candidate profile

The ideal applicant should bring 12 to 18 years of experience in enterprise risk management, with exposure to commodities, FMCG, manufacturing, or supply chain operations. Experience in multi-country operating environments is important, along with a strong grasp of commodity trading risk, capital management, and the design of enterprise-wide risk frameworks. Professional certifications such as FRM, PRM, CFA, CIA, or an equivalent global risk qualification are preferred.
