GIS & Land Survey Specialist

Overview

Become part of the team responsible for the foundational work behind Walt Disney World Resort's continuous success. As a GIS & Land Survey Specialist, you will integrate land surveying and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to support legal documentation, planning, design, construction, and operational needs across the resort and district. Collaborating closely with engineers, architects, project managers, regulatory bodies, and colleagues, you'll uphold the highest standards in asset management, mapping accuracy, and data reliability. Please note this role operates without an internal field crew.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead a variety of land surveying projects including topographic, utility, wetland, boundary, bathymetric surveys, and 3D scanning initiatives.
• Ensure quality assurance and control for survey and mapping outputs conforming to precise geometric standards and Florida regulatory codes.
• Develop and maintain GIS databases encompassing utility maps, land inventories, jurisdictional boundaries, road ownership, and legal descriptions.
• Continuously update GIS datasets to reflect project developments and ongoing maintenance, utilizing ArcGIS and mobile GIS applications to collect field data.
• Perform datum translations and re-sample aerial imagery for CAD and mapping accuracy.
• Prepare and review essential legal documents such as land descriptions, plats, contractor site layouts, and historical survey archives.
• Provide expert guidance and troubleshooting for GIS and survey technologies, staying informed about innovations in LiDAR, GPS, and associated software.
• Act as a communication bridge between surveying, engineering, project management teams, regulatory agencies, and external consultants or vendors.
• Document and disseminate procedural guidelines, standards, and technical documentation for both technical staff and non-technical partners.

Qualifications

• Over five years of varied land surveying experience covering fieldwork and data management.
• Minimum five years of expertise in GIS data handling, database management, metadata entry, and mobile GIS app development.
• Proficient in AutoCAD/Civil 3D and knowledgeable in ArcGIS software tools.
• Experience in reviewing survey work and managing relationships with external consultants and vendors.
• Familiarity with LiDAR scanning technology, data processing software, and converting data between different systems and datums.
• Capability in supporting and troubleshooting GPS hardware and related software.
• Strong communication abilities to engage effectively with both technical teams and non-technical stakeholders.

Education

• Bachelor’s or Associate degree in geomatics, land surveying, GIS, geography, or a related discipline.

Preferred Credentials

• Licensed Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) in Florida or the willingness and ability to obtain this certification within a year of employment.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual salary range for this role in Orlando, FL is $91,000 to $121,900, with actual compensation based on experience, knowledge, and location. Additional financial incentives such as bonuses or long-term incentive units may be included. This position reports directly to the Manager of Utility Mapping Services. Candidates should note there is no internal field team support available for this role.
