Job description
The opportunity
Hitachi Energy is looking for a GIS Installation and Commissioning Team Lead to join its Dammam, Saudi Arabia operations. In this role, you will provide technical guidance to customers across commissioning, installation, and equipment testing activities. The position also involves resolving more advanced startup issues, evaluating possible product or equipment upgrades, and helping build long-term customer relationships that support future business.
Impact and responsibilities
- Lead a GIS field services team made up of both junior and experienced professionals.
- Oversee day-to-day site operations and ensure timely, high-quality execution of new assembly work, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and commissioning tasks.
- Help deliver projects successfully by meeting targets related to schedule, cost, and materials.
- Attend site coordination meetings as needed and review reports carefully to identify errors, correct them, and share lessons learned with the project team and customer assessment process.
- Ensure the site achieves 6 SOTs for the year and close hazards whenever they arise in your area.
- Coach team members, maintain the competency matrix, and support the organization’s goal of having enough certified supervisors ready to take over leadership duties in line with company standards.
- Support the growth of the team’s safety and technical capabilities through coaching and guidance.
- Plan workforce allocation and track how the team is utilized across projects.
- Maintain regular communication with team members to understand needs and provide direction.
- Improve the efficiency and quality of the GIS supervisors’ team by scheduling regular site visits, monitoring progress, checking work quality, and accurately recording man-hours for better project utilization.
- Work closely with project managers and site installation supervisors to align expectations, match people to the complexity of each job, and avoid misunderstandings with customers.
- Ensure full compliance with internal and external regulations, procedures, and standards.
- Act in line with the company’s values of safety and integrity by taking accountability for your actions and protecting colleagues and the business.
Background and requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
- At least 8 years of GIS-related experience is preferred.
- GIS certification is mandatory.
- Strong knowledge of SF6 gas handling is required.
- Experience with PGHV transmission and sub-transmission GIS products is preferred.
- Ability to use MS Project effectively.
- Strong written and spoken communication skills in both English and Arabic.
