Job description
Role Overview
The General Utility Worker I supports both back-of-house and front-of-house food and beverage operations. The position is centered on maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary work environment while building practical knowledge of how to properly use and clean kitchen equipment.
Key Duties
- Check and document food and equipment temperatures.
- Keep work areas clean and safe, including dishwashing, pot washing, and deep-cleaning tasks.
- Take part in internal training sessions.
- Follow company rules for personal hygiene, grooming, and uniform standards at all times.
- Support the company’s health and safety policies and help promote them in daily work.
- Assist in carrying out company policies and procedures.
- Follow food hygiene rules and help chefs verify incoming food deliveries so only acceptable-quality products are received.
- Ensure stored food follows hygiene requirements and stock is rotated correctly.
- Carry out cleaning work for service equipment, furniture, and related service items.
- Prepare service stations and service areas before use.
- Store food items and equipment correctly after service ends.
Working Conditions
The role can involve physical activity such as lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, and long periods of walking or standing. Use of a uniform and personal protective equipment may also be required. Job duties may be adjusted or expanded as needed, with or without advance notice.
