About ActionAid Ghana
ActionAid is a global movement committed to advancing human rights and eradicating poverty. ActionAid Ghana (AAG) seeks qualified and proactive individuals to join their team as General Programme Officers in the Upper West and East Regions.
Role Overview
Working under the supervision of the Programme Manager, the General Programme Officer supports rights holders and partner organizations to effectively confront rights violations and collect vital information to inform national policy advocacy efforts. The role also involves developing and piloting alternatives which may be recommended for government adoption.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the creation and implementation of strategic papers, concept notes, and policy frameworks for both ActionAid Ghana and the federation.
- Empower rights holder groups to engage with government bodies and local authorities on priority issues within the Local Rights Programme.
- Help build capacity among partners and rights holders in policy analysis, advocacy, lobbying, and influencing techniques.
- Identify critical issues impacting mission goals within the Local Rights Programme that are relevant for fundraising.
- Maintain and nurture partnerships and networks with key stakeholders to shape policy and practice.
- Collect and analyze information on pressing policy matters for ActionAid Ghana's national-level interventions.
- Ensure timely reporting and documentation to strengthen accountability and relations with donors and communities.
- Contribute to the design of monitoring and evaluation metrics to assess the Local Rights Programme's strategy.
Job Details and Terms
This position is offered on a three-year renewable contract under national terms and conditions. The role demands travel within Ghana and to various programme communities.
Base salary is GH¢1024.41 per month (Band 3: Step 1).
Location
The duty stations are Tumu and Zebilla in the Upper West and East Regions.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- First Degree in Social Sciences or a related discipline.
- Minimum of two years relevant work experience.
Essential Knowledge and Skills
- Strong understanding of the Human Rights Based Approach (HRBA) to programming.
- Experience in Monitoring and Evaluation, as well as Child Sponsorship program work.
- Proficiency in computer use along with strong written and verbal communication abilities.
Competencies
- Excellent interpersonal, facilitation, presentation, and negotiation skills.
- Self-driven with an innovative mindset and rapid learning capability.
- Demonstrates sensitivity to gender and child rights.
- Ability to tolerate stress and exercise sound judgment.
