General Operative / Handyperson

About the Role

We are looking for dedicated General Operatives/Handypersons to join our team working on-site at Ashfield Girls' High School located at 397 Holywood Rd, Belfast. This permanent position requires working 37.5 hours per week from Monday to Friday on a three-week rotational shift system.

Work Schedule

• Week 1: 6:30 AM to 2:30 PM
• Week 2: 10:30 AM to 6:30 PM
• Shift patterns may change and will be clarified during the interview.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the smooth running and security of the school premises, including opening and closing the building.
• Perform routine DIY and maintenance tasks such as minor repairs on furniture and fixtures.
• Ensure proper functioning of heating, lighting, and alarm systems.
• Coordinate with engineers for more complex repairs.
• Regularly check all doors and windows are secured when the building is not occupied.
• Monitor premises to prevent vandalism and ensure safety.
• Set up and clear away furniture for meetings and assemblies.
• Follow instructions from the team lead and adhere strictly to health and safety standards.
• Conduct planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities.

Candidate Profile

• Practical knowledge and previous experience in basic DIY and minor repair work.
• Self-driven with a positive outlook and a team-oriented mindset.
• Flexible and able to manage shift work.
• Capable of building and maintaining strong relationships with on-site clients and colleagues.
• Committed to delivering excellent customer service.
• Well-versed in health and safety regulations, including COSHH standards.
• Basic computer literacy.
