Role Overview
We are looking for a dedicated on-site General Building Operative to join our team at HMP Leicester. This role supports His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service by ensuring that planned and emergency maintenance operations are conducted safely, compliantly, and efficiently to maintain secure prison facilities.
Work Schedule & Compensation
The position involves working 39 hours weekly across seven days with a rota requiring weekend shifts on a one-in-three basis, accompanied by a 15% weekend allowance. The base annual salary for this role is £28,792.
Primary Duties
- Collaborate with team members to perform general maintenance and assist skilled trade personnel on site.
- Deliver professional support to service requests, including escorting contractors within the prison as necessary.
- Engage in DIY tasks such as decorating, mounting notice boards, assembling furniture, and repairing various prison assets.
- Inspect appliances, fixtures, and surroundings to ensure operational integrity and report defects to the Team Leader promptly.
- Maintain cleanliness and order, including litter collection and landscaping duties around the grounds when required.
- Carry out all other facilities management responsibilities as directed by management.
- Contribute to local and organizational zero carbon initiatives in a strategic, efficient manner where applicable.
- Uphold health and safety standards throughout the contract operations.
Candidate Requirements
- Proven experience in general maintenance and DIY activities.
- Valid CITB certification or an equivalent qualification.
- Motivation to acquire new skills and knowledge.
- Aptitude for effective teamwork and cooperation.
Applicants must be prepared to undergo prison security clearance, with support provided during the process.
