Role Overview

The General Manager/Chief of Basketball Operations for the Women's Basketball team plays a pivotal role supporting the Head Coach in areas including management of revenue-sharing initiatives, NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) partnerships, roster strategy, and comprehensive program operations. This leadership position drives financial growth, student-athlete salary supervision, NCAA regulation compliance, scouting, transfer portal monitoring, alumni and donor engagement, and collaborates closely with University Development for fundraising efforts.

The role also encompasses managing daily operational aspects of the women's basketball program.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate directly with the Head Coach and players to organize calendars encompassing academic obligations, basketball activities, external events, and NIL-related engagements
• Develop and implement Women’s Basketball-specific branding and NIL strategies through partnerships and activations
• Apply expertise in revenue-sharing frameworks to oversee salary structure, contract negotiations, and financial planning for athletes
• Manage a portfolio of NIL agreements, aligning player partnerships with Howard’s brand where suitable
• Formulate strategic partnerships to maximize player endorsement deals, seasonal opportunities, and exposure, acting as liaison with NIL collectives
• Maintain strong communication channels with players, families, and alumni concerning NIL deals, ensuring strategic and compliance alignment
• Lead budgeting, investment guidance, and navigation of NCAA policies related to athlete financial management
• Assist with recruitment and retention strategies; maintain roster and salary cap data
• Monitor the transfer portal consistently, evaluating prospective transfers and managing relationships with athletes’ families and agents
• Collaborate with Athletics and University Development to identify and cultivate fundraising initiatives and donor relations
• Initiate and direct community engagement programs and strengthen alumni involvement to enhance Women's Basketball's presence
• Plan and manage team events, including recruiting functions and donor interactions
• Serve as liaison for VIP guests and special attendees at home and away games ensuring smooth event logistics
• Support operational decision-making within the coaching staff, applying sound judgment on procedural matters
• Administer program budgets, manage game logistics, travel planning, oversee practice operations, student manager supervision, and team scheduling
• Represent the program at various events, meetings, and recruiting activities with availability during evenings and weekends as required

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in operations, preferably within sports management, collegiate or professional athletics, or brand partnerships
• Deep understanding of revenue-sharing, NIL partnerships, and NCAA compliance requirements
• Strong negotiation capabilities with experience managing salaries, contracts, and financial plans for athletes
• Ability to juggle multiple projects in dynamic environments while maintaining precision and detail
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills capable of effective collaboration across diverse groups
• Proficient public speaking and written communication skills
• Background in basketball operations, administration, recruiting, or fundraising is highly desirable
• Dedication to upholding collegiate athletic values and fostering student-athlete development and welfare

Compensation

The salary offered ranges between $58,000 and $60,000 annually, in compliance with institutional salary disclosures.
