About the Role
The General Manager (GM) serves as the strategic leader and operational overseer of the institute dedicated to sanitation, waste management, environmental sustainability, and professional capacity development. The GM is accountable for steering growth via strategic partnerships, enhancing operational effectiveness, upholding financial health, and maintaining excellent stakeholder relations. This position is crucial in preserving the institute's standing as a premier entity in its domain.
Core Responsibilities
- Formulate and execute strategic and operational plans consistent with organizational goals.
- Promote sustainable expansion through innovation, operational efficiency, and exploration of new market segments within environmental sectors.
- Identify new business opportunities and trends in sanitation, waste management, and related fields.
- Cultivate a workplace culture emphasizing accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Drive revenue growth by managing training offerings, consultancy engagements, partnerships, grants, and other commercial channels.
- Establish and nurture strategic relationships with government bodies, NGOs, academic institutions, and industry stakeholders.
- Manage daily operations ensuring program delivery adheres to timelines, budgets, and quality benchmarks.
- Develop and monitor key performance indicators and promote continual process enhancements.
- Oversee budget formulation, financial monitoring, and resource allocation to support long-term sustainability.
- Represent the institute publicly, enhancing reputation and ensuring stakeholder satisfaction.
- Lead a multidisciplinary team fostering engagement, development, and organizational effectiveness.
- Maintain compliance with legal, regulatory, governance standards, and risk management protocols.
Qualifications and Experience
- Possession of a Master’s degree in Business Administration, Management, Engineering, Environmental Management, Public Administration, or a related area; professional credentials are advantageous.
- At least 10 years of progressive management experience, including a minimum of 5 years in a senior executive role.
- Proven expertise in overseeing operations, business expansion, financial management, and leading diverse teams.
- Demonstrated commercial insight with success in revenue generation and strategic alliances.
- Experience engaging with government agencies, developmental partners, NGOs, or consultancies is preferred.
- Background in training institutions or sectors related to environment, sanitation, or waste management is beneficial.
