Role overview
As the General Manager, you will provide overall leadership for the hotel’s day-to-day operations. The role focuses on improving sales and revenue, delivering strong financial performance, building and developing the team, maintaining brand standards, and strengthening the hotel’s visibility in the local market.
Key responsibilities
People leadership
- Create programmes and initiatives that strengthen team engagement and reflect the hotel’s service philosophy.
- Set up, track, and refine succession plans to ensure future leadership depth across the team.
- Define performance and growth goals for team members, and support them through coaching, mentoring, and regular feedback.
- Oversee HR-related matters in line with company policies and procedures.
Guest experience
- Lead by example in upholding all brand and service standards consistently.
- Work to improve guest satisfaction outcomes.
- Partner with hotel colleagues to design and deliver services and initiatives that meet or exceed guest expectations.
- Engage directly with guests, invite feedback, and build strong relationships.
Financial leadership
- Prepare annual plans for capital, cash flow, sales, and marketing to support accurate budget forecasting.
- Review financial performance to improve revenue, strengthen profitability, and maximise return on investment.
- Use distribution channels and technology tools to grow revenue and increase market share.
- Lead capital planning and asset management efforts, including coordination with owners to protect or enhance the property’s market position.
Responsible business
- Maintain a safe and secure environment for guests, colleagues, and hotel assets.
- Represent the hotel publicly to build awareness of the hotel and brand in the local community.
- Encourage team participation in community groups, activities, and local businesses.
- Implement environmentally responsible action plans that help reduce the hotel’s carbon footprint.
- Take on additional duties as assigned and may also act as manager on duty.
Qualifications and experience
The role requires a Bachelor’s degree, higher education qualification, or equivalent in Hotel Administration or Business Administration. Candidates should have five to ten years of prior hotel management experience, or an equivalent mix of education and experience. The level of experience needed may change depending on the size and complexity of the operation. Fluent English is required, and additional languages are preferred.
