Job Summary

The Cook Chill Food Production Center operates independently on the grounds of the Maplehurst Correctional Facility, with no inmate presence or interactions. We are seeking a General Helper to manage the precise and efficient assembly of meals on the production line, ensuring strict compliance with food safety protocols, portion controls, and hygiene standards. Responsibilities include supervising meal assembly, coordinating assignments, verifying utensil use and portions, maintaining cleanliness, and completing accurate meal counts and documentation before shipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Adhere strictly to all meal assembly procedures and company policies.
  • Correctly use and maintain all personal protective equipment (PPE) and company tools.
  • Follow all workplace health and safety guidelines including OHS Act and WHMIS regulations.
  • Promptly report accidents, unsafe conditions, and participate in investigations.
  • Comply with all facility regulations related to reporting, utensil management, and waste disposal.
  • Ensure meals are accurately portioned and trays are clean prior to sealing.
  • Assemble meals according to Diet Assembly Sequence Worksheets and Meal Order Summaries.
  • Prevent allergen cross-contamination by assembling diets in order and maintaining sanitation.
  • Utilize appropriate tools for precise portioning.
  • Set up workstations ergonomically and maintain line cleanliness.
  • Perform scooping and product handling in line with guidelines.
  • Complete final counts of meals, including special diets and bulk orders, and document shipments accurately.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and colleagues to promote safety and efficiency.
  • Maintain adherence to work schedules, breaks, and operational priorities.
  • Take on additional duties as delegated by supervisors.

Qualifications

  • Experience in commercial kitchens, food production, institutional food service, or manufacturing environments with safe equipment operation.
  • Familiarity with regulated environments and standards including HACCP, GMP, WHMIS, and health and safety protocols.
  • Physical capability to lift up to 25 lbs, perform repetitive motions, stand for full shifts, work in cold settings, and engage in two-person lift procedures.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively, with attention to detail, organizational skills, flexibility, and comfort in a high-paced workplace.
  • Proficient communication skills in English, strong customer service orientation, and willingness to comply with PPE requirements.
  • Commitment to obtaining Advanced Food Safety Training within 90 days and passing all necessary security clearances and screenings.

Compensation

The position offers a wage of 19 per hour.
