Garden Sales Team Member

About the role

Mitre 10 Ponsonby is now looking for an enthusiastic, knowledgeable Garden Sales Team Member to join a friendly, community-minded team on a permanent full-time basis.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys plants, likes assisting customers, and wants to develop a career in retail. In the garden department, you will contribute to a strong product range and memorable customer service. The role is centred on plants, but it also includes garden care products, tools, and décor, giving you the chance to deepen your knowledge while helping customers every day.

The position is for 40 hours per week and follows a flexible roster of either Sunday to Thursday or Tuesday to Saturday. As this is a smaller store, you may also be asked to help in other departments when required, which adds variety and learning opportunities. A strong focus on safety, teamwork, and excellent service is essential.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver a customer experience that is welcoming, helpful, and enjoyable for every shopper.
• Use your garden knowledge to guide customers toward the right products for their needs and projects.
• Assist with weekly plant selection and ordering, with training provided.
• Continue building product expertise and confidently share it with customers and colleagues.
• Keep the garden area well stocked, tidy, and visually appealing through strong merchandising standards.
• Take responsibility for the presentation and range of products within the Garden department.
• Escalate issues to the leadership team quickly and clearly when needed.
• Work closely with the Retail Manager to support department targets and outcomes.
• Provide support to other store areas as needed.
• Follow all health, safety, and store procedures consistently and responsibly.

• Solid basic knowledge of plants and gardening.

Additional information

This role is permanent and full time. The roster is flexible and may run Sunday to Thursday or Tuesday to Saturday. The weekly hours are 40. Because the store is smaller, cross-department support may be part of the job from time to time. Safety, collaboration, and great customer service are core expectations in this position.
