About the Galway Street Ambassadors Programme

The Galway Street Ambassadors initiative is a new and dynamic volunteer project designed to enhance the experience of visitors in Galway City during the bustling summer period. Led by Galway Volunteer Centre and supported by Galway Culture Company, this programme is focused on welcoming tourists and sharing insightful information about local culture, events, and attractions. Ambassadors provide practical tips as well as guidance on cultural activities happening around the city.

Responsibilities

• Patrol designated routes throughout Galway City Centre, engaging kindly with visitors.
• Offer helpful information about Galway, including current events, landmarks, transportation, and local amenities.
• Guide tourists to notable cultural events and activities.
• Collaborate with fellow ambassadors during 3-hour shifts, with a minimum commitment of one shift per month.
• Support the promotion of Galway as a vibrant destination for European and international travellers.

Requirements

• Friendly and approachable demeanor, with a genuine interest in helping others.
• Enthusiasm for local culture and willingness to learn about Galway’s history and events.
• Ability to communicate clearly with people from diverse backgrounds.
• Availability to volunteer for at least one 3-hour shift each month, especially during summer.
• Successful participation in an interview and attendance at the volunteer training session prior to starting.

Additional Information

• Volunteers will receive full training before commencing their role (training starts in mid-May).
• All Ambassador shifts are conducted in pairs for support and companionship.
• The programme is specifically interested in engaging volunteers capable of connecting with European visitors.
