Job description
Position Overview
This full-time role involves maintaining cleanliness and order within school facilities under the guidance of the Head Custodian, Principal, and Chief Operations Officer. It primarily entails working afternoon to evening shifts throughout the 12-month school year.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensuring school buildings are securely locked and cleaned at the start and end of each shift.
- Cleaning various areas including classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, restrooms, offices, and stairwells to meet district standards.
- Performing floor care tasks such as sweeping, mopping, buffing, stripping, and waxing floors.
- Cleaning carpets, rugs, upholstered furniture, blinds, walls, ceilings, woodwork, windows, doors, and sills.
- Removing graffiti and maintaining glass areas.
- Replacing light bulbs and setting up or breaking down furniture and equipment for meetings or events.
- Clearing snow and ice from entrances and walkways, spreading sand or melting agents as needed.
- Performing grounds maintenance including debris clearance.
- Receiving and unloading deliveries and distributing supplies throughout the building.
- Collecting trash, emptying waste baskets, and aiding in recycling efforts.
- Assisting with special event support, particularly aiding visitors and parents during programs.
- Conducting additional cleaning and repair tasks during school vacations and as directed by supervisors.
Equipment and Safety
- Utilizes general cleaning tools including brooms, mops, vacuum cleaners, floor cleaning machines, waxing equipment, snow blowers, shovels, power mower, and hand tools.
- Adheres strictly to safety protocols for tool and equipment use.
- Wears required safety gear such as masks and complies with chemical hygiene and MSDS regulations.
Qualifications and Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent education adequate to perform required duties.
- Previous custodial or building maintenance experience is beneficial.
- Valid Wyoming Motor Vehicle Operator's license or ability to provide personal transportation.
- Capability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions.
- Strong communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
- Ability to accurately identify and describe maintenance issues.
- Mathematical skills sufficient to handle measurements and calculations.
- Capacity to work in varying weather conditions and at heights using ladders and lifts.
- Team player with an ability to build cooperative relationships with staff and students.

Additional Information
This position is classified as non-exempt under FLSA guidelines. Occasional travel between school buildings and central office locations is expected.
