Job description
About the Role
The Frist Art Museum is seeking interns for its spring 2026 program in Nashville, Tennessee. The museum emphasizes equity, inclusion, mentorship, and the development of future museum professionals through supervised internships designed to expose students to a range of career paths in a non-collecting art museum.
The internship program is intended for students and recent graduates and is structured around the fall and spring semesters and the summer break. Available internship areas for this cycle include Communications, Design, Education and Engagement, and Exhibitions—Publications Division.
Who Can Apply
Applications are open to any student or 2023–2024 graduate. Priority is given to juniors and seniors studying art education, art history, business, communications, design, education, fine arts, museum studies, and related disciplines, as well as recent graduates in these fields.
Selected candidates must complete a background check and submit all required application materials.
Compensation
Interns will receive pay of $16 per hour, with payment made weekly.
Spring 2026 Program Details
The spring 2026 internship carries a maximum commitment of 128 hours. Interns are generally expected to work at least 8 hours each week, although this can be adjusted with supervisor approval. The internship begins on January 16, 2026 and runs for 16 weeks.
Application Instructions
To be considered, applicants must send a single PDF package to internships@FristArtMuseum.org. The package should include a cover letter describing why the internship is a fit for their long-term goals, a faculty recommendation letter, any required work samples or portfolio materials for the chosen department, and the intern application form. A current resume may also be included, but it is optional.
Recommendation letters may be sent separately to internships@fristartmuseum.org, with the applicant’s name and “Letter of Recommendation” in the subject line.
If you previously applied for a fall 2025 internship and were not selected, you may reuse the same materials for spring 2026 as long as the application is updated for that term.
The submission must be one combined PDF file rather than a zip archive, and the file name must follow the format LastName_FirstName_Spring2026app.
Applicants will receive confirmation after submission. Only candidates selected for further consideration will be contacted for interviews. This is a competitive program, and applying does not guarantee placement.
Deadline
Applications for the spring 2026 term must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on October 13, 2025. Late submissions will not be accepted.
Additional Information
This internship is part of the museum’s broader commitment to building a stable, sustainable, and equitable workplace that supports mentorship and develops a pipeline of future leadership reflecting Nashville-area communities.
The museum also notes promotional messaging about its broader student community, but that does not affect the internship requirements or selection process.
