Role Overview

This is a freelance, paid contract assignment for a Sinhalese-speaking transcriptionist. The work is fully remote and open to qualified contributors from anywhere in the world.

You will work with audio recordings featuring two speakers, with the channels already separated. Your task is to turn each recording into a clear, accurate transcript in the correct order, while identifying speakers and adding timestamps.

What You Will Do

• Review two-speaker Sinhalese audio files and transcribe them manually.
• Capture the spoken content of both speakers faithfully and completely.
• Assign speaker labels as Speaker 1 and Speaker 2, aligned to the correct audio channel.
• Insert timestamps at the beginning of each speaker turn in HH:MM:SS format.
• Keep the transcript in sequential order without missing or unexplained time jumps.

Requirements

• Near-native or native-level command of Sinhalese in both speech and writing.
• Excellent written Sinhalese with strong spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
• Ability to work independently and consistently meet daily output goals.
• Access to a computer and a stable internet connection.
• Availability for at least 4 hours each day.
• Previous transcription experience is helpful but not mandatory; every applicant must clear a qualification test.

Quality Expectations

• Delivered transcripts must maintain a word error rate of 5% or lower.
• Speaker labeling must be perfect, with Speaker 1 always matching Channel 1.
• Work will be checked continuously, and feedback will be shared quickly.
• Any file that falls below the required quality level will be sent back for revision.

How the Selection Works

Applicants must submit their details through the Perle platform and complete a short qualification assignment consisting of a 5-minute Sinhalese audio transcription sample. Candidates who pass the assessment are onboarded right away and assigned to active production work.
