Role overview

Perle is looking for a freelance transcriptionist who can work in Akan for a remote transcription assignment. This is a paid contract opportunity open to qualified contributors anywhere in the world.

You will work on 2-speaker audio files where the channels are separated clearly. The objective is to produce an accurate transcript in the correct sequence, with speaker labels and timestamps included.

What the role involves

• Carefully listen to Akan recordings with two speakers
• Transcribe every spoken word faithfully and completely
• Assign each turn to Speaker 1 or Speaker 2 in line with the audio channel
• Insert timestamps at the beginning of every speaker turn in HH:MM:SS format
• Keep the transcript ordered correctly without unexplained time gaps

Requirements

• Native-level or near-native command of Akan in both speaking and writing
• Excellent written Akan with strong spelling, punctuation, and grammar
• Ability to work on your own and consistently meet daily output expectations
• Computer access with a reliable internet connection
• Availability of at least 4 hours each day
• Previous transcription work is helpful but not mandatory; every applicant must clear a qualification test

Quality standards

• Delivered transcripts must maintain a word error rate of 5% or lower
• Speaker labels must be exact, with Speaker 1 always aligned to Channel 1
• Work will be checked continuously and feedback will be shared quickly
• Submissions below the quality bar will be sent back for fixes

Project details

This is a manual audio transcription project in Akan. The expected commitment is around 4 hours per day, with a remote and flexible schedule. Payments are processed through Payoneer or Wise. Onboarding begins as soon as a candidate is qualified, and recruitment is ongoing on a rolling basis.

Applicants must complete the process on Perle’s platform and submit a short qualification task consisting of a 5-minute Akan audio transcription sample. Candidates who pass will be onboarded right away and given production work.
