About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Freedom of Information (FOI) Officer to join a newly formed regulatory authority dedicated to safeguarding the safety, wellbeing, and quality outcomes for children in the early childhood sector. This role offers an opportunity to work within a purpose-driven government organization with significant regulatory responsibilities, a strong performance culture, and a clear public service mission.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the full life cycle of FOI requests, ensuring compliance with applicable legislation.
  • Compose detailed and clear FOI decisions, official correspondence, and recommendations.
  • Provide expert guidance on FOI legislative requirements, exemptions, and information disclosure obligations.
  • Develop briefs, reports, and responses addressing complex information access requests.
  • Engage and coordinate with both internal teams and external stakeholders regarding FOI matters.
  • Support governance, compliance, and information management functions.
  • Participate in the formulation and refinement of policies, procedures, and reporting mechanisms related to FOI.

Candidate Profile

  • Demonstrated prior experience handling FOI requests in a Commonwealth Government setting is essential.
  • Deep understanding of the Freedom of Information legal framework and decision-making protocols.
  • Proven ability to manage complex and sensitive FOI matters independently.
  • Strong legislative interpretation skills and capacity to provide practical, informed advice.
  • Excellent written communication paired with effective stakeholder engagement abilities.
  • Experience preparing formal submissions, briefs, determinations, or review documentation.
  • Knowledge of privacy, governance, or regulatory frameworks is highly desirable.
