About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Freedom of Information (FOI) Officer to join a newly formed regulatory authority dedicated to safeguarding the safety, wellbeing, and quality outcomes for children in the early childhood sector. This role offers an opportunity to work within a purpose-driven government organization with significant regulatory responsibilities, a strong performance culture, and a clear public service mission.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the full life cycle of FOI requests, ensuring compliance with applicable legislation.
- Compose detailed and clear FOI decisions, official correspondence, and recommendations.
- Provide expert guidance on FOI legislative requirements, exemptions, and information disclosure obligations.
- Develop briefs, reports, and responses addressing complex information access requests.
- Engage and coordinate with both internal teams and external stakeholders regarding FOI matters.
- Support governance, compliance, and information management functions.
- Participate in the formulation and refinement of policies, procedures, and reporting mechanisms related to FOI.
Candidate Profile
- Demonstrated prior experience handling FOI requests in a Commonwealth Government setting is essential.
- Deep understanding of the Freedom of Information legal framework and decision-making protocols.
- Proven ability to manage complex and sensitive FOI matters independently.
- Strong legislative interpretation skills and capacity to provide practical, informed advice.
- Excellent written communication paired with effective stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Experience preparing formal submissions, briefs, determinations, or review documentation.
- Knowledge of privacy, governance, or regulatory frameworks is highly desirable.
