Research Officer - Government and Corrections

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Research Officer to lead the development and delivery of workforce insights reporting focused on the government and corrections sectors. This senior role involves managing a high-profile national workforce insights report scheduled for 2027, outlining key trends and strategies for workforce planning.

The client is a national workforce and skills organisation dedicated to supporting government and public safety sectors. The organisation specializes in workforce planning intelligence, collaborating extensively with industry stakeholders, government departments, unions, and peak bodies to address workforce challenges and identify emerging skill requirements.

Role Responsibilities

• Lead the creation and delivery of workforce insights reports targeting federal, state, and local government, as well as correctional services.
• Assist in preparing the major workforce insights report for 2027.
• Coordinate project activities including resources, documentation, and milestone tracking, while producing regular progress reports for stakeholders.
• Manage project risks and comply with internal governance protocols.
• Conduct applied research, perform literature reviews, benchmarking, and analyze data to develop research summaries, briefs, and comprehensive reports.
• Facilitate workshops and consultations both online and face-to-face across all jurisdictions, negotiating and building consensus with unions, industry bodies, government departments, and advisory groups.
• Serve as a communication bridge between cross-functional teams, management, and external parties.

Candidate Profile

• Robust research skills spanning qualitative and quantitative methods, with a proven ability to analyze data and compile clear, evidence-based reports for leadership audiences.
• Capability to translate research findings into actionable workforce strategies.
• Experience in government, corrections, defence, police or emergency services sectors is advantageous but not mandatory.
• Strong project coordination skills, including milestone tracking, status reporting, risk management, and documentation discipline.
• Effectiveness in delivering engaging presentations, facilitating workshops, and achieving consensus among diverse stakeholders.
• Proficiency in project management tools such as Microsoft Project, Trello, or Asana, alongside Microsoft Office applications.
• A bachelor’s degree in business, project management, or related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
• Possession of a current Working with Children Check or willingness to obtain one.

Additional Information

• Dixon Appointments will conduct a National Police Check on your behalf.
• This is a three-month temporary assignment, commencing immediately or as soon as possible.
• Position is based at Melbourne Central Business District with flexible work arrangements balancing staff needs and business priorities.
• Hourly remuneration ranges between $70 and $80 plus superannuation.
