Job description

About the Role

We are seeking a commercially astute Fractional Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to partner with a venture-backed AI technology startup based in London. This innovative company is revolutionizing finance and administrative management through intelligent automation. As the startup embarks on its growth trajectory, the CFO will collaborate closely with the CEO and leadership team to guide financial strategy, assist fundraising efforts, and lay the groundwork for sustained expansion or an exit event.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of financial strategies, forecasting, and long-range planning.
  • Create complex financial models and conduct scenario analyses to inform decisions.
  • Collaborate with the CEO on commercial strategies to drive business growth.
  • Support investment fundraising initiatives and help prepare the company for investor engagements.
  • Manage due diligence processes, explore strategic partnerships, and evaluate potential mergers and acquisitions.
  • Oversee budgeting processes, manage cash flow, and monitor financial performance indicators.
  • Prepare and deliver comprehensive board reports along with insightful financial briefings.
  • Critically evaluate assumptions and provide data-backed commercial guidance.
  • Mentor and provide strategic oversight to the Finance Manager.

Candidate Profile

  • Demonstrable background as a CFO or Fractional CFO, preferably in startups, scale-ups, or venture-backed companies.
  • Outstanding commercial finance knowledge, including financial planning and analysis (FP&A).
  • Experience supporting investor relations, fundraising, and board-level reporting.
  • Skilled in financial modeling and strategic business planning.
  • Proven track record working with founders and executive leadership in dynamic, fast-evolving environments.
  • Strong ability to influence business decisions through commercial insight.

Desirable Experience

  • Previous engagement in AI, Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), or FinTech sectors.
  • Involvement in Series A or Series B funding stages.
  • Experience handling mergers, acquisitions, or strategic transactions.
  • Expertise in preparing companies for investment or exit processes.

What We Offer

  • Direct collaboration with an ambitious CEO and leadership team.
  • Opportunity to shape financial strategy within a cutting-edge AI business.
  • Flexible working arrangements focused on outputs rather than fixed hours, with a hybrid onsite schedule requiring at least three days in the London office weekly.
  • Meaningful opportunity to influence long-term company success.
  • Competitive compensation with rates up to £1,000 per day.
  • Potential for an extended partnership with a progressive technology firm.
