Job description
About the Company
Swoop was started by Thiel Fellow Aubrey Niederhoffer and has recently closed a $7.3M seed round, the biggest seed investment ever raised by an African consumer startup. The company is building a super-app for Africa, beginning with food delivery. It is backed by Long Journey, Variant, Version One, Soma Capital, and Dune Ventures, and is already the leading food delivery provider in Eswatini while expanding quickly across the continent.
About the Role
This opening is for a founding Head of Growth who will take full ownership of marketing strategy and budget. The role spans digital advertising, store-led growth, out-of-home marketing, and newer channels. You will partner closely with the CEO and in-country marketing teams to create the growth engine for a major consumer business in Africa. It is a highly hands-on founding position within a fast-scaling company.
Responsibilities
- Design and run market-entry and go-to-market plans for Nigeria and additional African markets, including customer segmentation, positioning, channel selection, and city-by-city launch sequencing. Share weekly consolidated insights on customer behavior, pricing response, and channel effectiveness.
- Develop brand messaging, positioning frameworks, and voice guidelines, and create campaign themes. Work with leading restaurants on co-marketing, partner incentives, and category leadership content that supports restaurant acquisition at scale.
- Drive customer growth through digital channels such as social, search, and creator collaborations, along with field marketing, referral programs, promotions, and live activations. Lead fast-moving campaigns including creator-led promotions, ambassador programs, delivery flash events, and bold launch experiences. Manage app-install funnels, attribution, CAC, and ROAS, and build CRM, loyalty, referral, WhatsApp, push, and email lifecycle systems.
- Own the marketing budget, forecasts, and the contribution of marketing spend to profitability. Monitor CAC, orders, GMV lift, retention, activation, and channel-level results, and continuously improve order volume, active user growth, repeat usage, referrals, and conversion.
- Recruit and manage a compact, high-output marketing team across content, performance, field activations, partnerships, and brand/PR. Create scaling playbooks for future categories such as groceries, parcels, transport, and payments, and coach the team to support adoption across multiple verticals as the super-app grows.
Requirements
- At least 4 years of experience in B2C marketing, ideally within startups, marketplaces, or food delivery businesses.
- Proven experience marketing a B2C product with more than 100,000 monthly active users.
- A background that is primarily B2C, with recent B2C experience within the past 5 years; mostly B2B profiles are not suitable.
- Strong analytical capability and a history of using data to guide decisions based on CAC, retention, LTV, and channel ROAS.
- Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal, are required.
- Experience in food delivery or marketplace platforms is highly desirable, including companies such as Delivery Hero, foodpanda, talabat, Lieferando, Glovo, Wolt, or similar businesses.
Preferred Profile
The company values standout achievement in any domain, whether in academics, sports, competitions, or a successful side project. Candidates with exposure to emerging or developing markets, or a strong interest in building products for Africa, are encouraged. A quantitative background such as data science, statistics, or another numerically focused field is also preferred. A sincere willingness to understand local market context and adapt campaigns accordingly will be an advantage. Relocation to Lagos, either partially or fully, is welcome but not mandatory.
Compensation and Benefits
- Guaranteed equity in Swoop’s global entity.
- Execution-based bonus pool linked to launch milestones and growth targets, with a range of 5% to 20%.
- For candidates who choose to relocate to Lagos, visa support, travel, accommodation, and meals are fully covered.
- Opportunity to take founding ownership in a well-funded super-app expanding across Africa.
