Role Overview
The Football Trader will be part of the trading function and will own the complete odds process, starting with pre-match pricing and continuing through live in-play trading. The position calls for strong football knowledge, an understanding of sports betting markets, and comfort with statistical analysis, rapid decision-making, and exposure management in fast-moving live conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Create, price, and maintain football betting markets across domestic and international competitions for both pre-match and live play.
- Build odds for player and statistics-led markets such as Shots, Fouls, Tackles, and Offsides.
- Track market movement, team updates, and liabilities, then adjust prices while identifying sharp betting behaviour.
- Run live football markets during matches using the internal soccer model, including Corners, Cards, Stats, and Player markets.
- Keep markets commercially competitive while protecting target margins.
- Use trading tools and data feeds to ensure updates are accurate and delivered on time.
- Work with Risk teams whenever market or exposure issues require support.
- Analyse the competitions and markets under your control, looking at betting patterns, customer behaviour, and performance trends.
- Partner with quantitative analysts, product teams, and risk stakeholders to improve models, tools, and platform capability.
Requirements
- Deep interest in football and familiarity with major leagues and competitions.
- Background in sportsbook trading or betting operations.
- Ability to decide quickly and accurately in pressured situations.
- Good grasp of probability, odds setting, and betting market mechanics.
- Confident use of Excel, Google Sheets, and trading systems.
- Willingness to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and major football events.
Nice to Have
- Academic background in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Data Science, or a similar area.
- Exposure to in-play trading tools or automated trading systems.
- Experience with additional betting markets such as Totals, Player Props, and Stats markets.
- Knowledge of Python or R.
