Job description

Overview

As a member of the Nutrition Food Service (NFS) team at Claresholm Center for Mental Health, you will provide nutritious and high-quality meals to patients, residents, staff, visitors, and the community in a temporary full-time capacity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, handle, portion, and package food and beverages following established guidelines and menus.
  • Assemble trays in the kitchen and serve meals in dining areas.
  • Deliver and collect patient meals efficiently.
  • Order, receive, and store unit supplies appropriately.
  • Operate and clean industrial kitchen equipment safely and maintain sanitation standards.
  • Adhere strictly to food safety, sanitation, and preparation protocols according to Alberta Health Services policies.

Work Environment and Expectations

  • Operate independently under the supervision of a Food Services Supervisor in a fast-paced setting requiring high accuracy and speed.
  • Manage high-stress situations with professionalism and calm communication.
  • Collaborate effectively with patients, colleagues, and hospital departments, demonstrating strong communication skills in English.
  • Apply critical thinking and initiative when carrying out duties.
  • Uphold a patient-first attitude aligned with Alberta Health Services foundational strategies.
  • Perform basic mathematical calculations for portion control.

Location and Schedule

This role is located in Claresholm, Alberta, approximately 91 km northwest of Lethbridge and 125 km south of Calgary, near Waterton Lakes National Park. The temporary full-time position runs from August 20, 2026, to February 22, 2027, with a 7.75-hour shift length. Work shifts include days, evenings, weekends, and follow a rotation with days off accordingly.

Compensation

The hourly wage ranges between $22.05 and $23.69.

Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent education.
  • Physical capability to lift up to 46 lbs and push/pull meal carts weighing up to 250 lbs; ability to be on feet and walk throughout shifts.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Attendance at 1-2 days of new employee orientation for Patient Food Services.

Preferred Experience

  • At least 1 year of customer service experience.
  • At least 1 year of food service experience.
  • Experience working in hospital or long-term care settings.
  • Knowledge of inventory management techniques, including receiving deliveries, monitoring expiry dates, minimizing waste, and applying First In - First Out procedures.
  • Experience operating commercial food service equipment.
  • Certification in Food Safe or equivalent and WHMIS training.
