Role overview

This part-time, on-site food and beverage role is based in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bavaria, Germany at Edelweiss Lodge and Resort. The position supports a limited-tenure program and focuses on basic food service, cash handling, and keeping the serving area clean and safe.

Key duties

  • Prepare and serve simple food and drink items such as hot dogs, nachos, chips, candy, and lemonade.
  • Keep the work area tidy, organized, and sanitary.
  • Ring up sales, total transactions on the cash register, take payments, and provide change when needed.
  • Maintain cash-related records and carry out other assigned tasks as required.

Skills and work expectations

The job calls for the ability to work independently, apply basic food-handling practices, use approved cleaning and sanitizing agents, and remain safe while working in food prep and storage areas. The attendant should be able to portion items consistently, stay focused when serving multiple guests at once, and use simple arithmetic for billing and inventory. Physical and working conditions

Eligibility and employment conditions

  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens, hold a valid U.S. passport, and be at least 18 years old.
  • A direct deposit setup and Social Security Card are required at the time of appointment.
  • Candidates must satisfy all qualification, eligibility, and background-check requirements for the role.
  • Required background screening includes the processes described under AR215-3, Chapter 2, paragraph 213, including initiation/completion of a Child and Youth National Agency Check with Inquiries (CNACI).
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • A pre-employment physical examination is required.
  • The schedule may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete the Selective Service pre-employment certification statement.
  • At least 4 hours of initial food sanitation and safety training must be completed within 30 days of hiring, followed by at least 4 hours of refresher training each year.
  • If alcohol service is part of the assignment, state or local age rules must also be met.
  • A certificate of medical examination is required.

Qualifications

Applicants must be able to show at least one year of experience at a level that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to succeed in this position. Resume content must clearly support the qualifications claimed. For government applicants, the resume must include pay plan, series, grade, from/to dates, and the government agency or department. Resumes are limited to two pages or fewer, and transcripts must be included with the application. Only credentials from accredited or pre-accredited schools are accepted; foreign education must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency.

  • This is a limited-tenure role that will not exceed 15 months.
  • The program is unaccompanied, so logistical support for family members is not available.
  • Dorm-style housing is provided instead of a living quarters allowance.
  • Transportation to and from Germany is covered according to the Joint Travel Regulation and the executed transportation agreement.
  • Military spouses and family members already living within the Garmisch Military Community who apply under this announcement may be considered for a regular appointment.

  • The duty station is Edelweiss Lodge and Resort, Garmisch, Germany, and the employee must live within commuting distance.
  • Access to some federal facilities may require a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license/ID or an Enhanced Driver’s License from WA, MI, MN, NY, or VT.
