Job description
The Opportunity
We are hiring a Food and Beverage Attendant for the newly opened waterfront restaurant, Hiku, at Sudima Kaikōura. This position suits someone who enjoys hospitality, has worked in restaurants or customer-facing environments, and is eager to learn, as full training will be provided.
The role is part-time and based onsite at Sudima Kaikōura. You will be guaranteed at least 20 hours per week, and the hourly pay is between $24 and $26. A permanent full-time arrangement may be considered for the right person.
Key Duties
- Welcome guests in a friendly and attentive manner.
- Work collaboratively with the team to deliver a high standard of service and memorable dining experiences.
- Prepare the dining area for service by arranging tables and setting them up appropriately.
- Escort guests to their tables, present menus and drinks lists, take orders, and provide consistently strong service.
- Open bottles, pour beverages, and serve food and drinks.
- Clear used dishes and cutlery and return them to the kitchen.
- Remove empty bottles and glasses, then replenish and replace glassware as needed.
- Handle incoming phone queries, both internal and external, and deliver room service orders.
- Process guest payments, settle accounts, and operate POS systems and cash registers.
- Resolve guest concerns positively and ensure proper follow-up on complaints.
What We Are Looking For
We are seeking someone with excellent presentation and hygiene standards, calmness under pressure, and a genuine willingness to go the extra mile for guests. Strong communication and customer service skills, along with careful attention to detail, are essential. A desire to build a long-term career in hospitality is also important.
Experience in restaurant and bar service, or any customer-facing role, will be an advantage. You must also be flexible to work outside standard hours, including early starts, late finishes, weekends, and public holidays. A valid right to work in New Zealand is required.
The role normally calls for NZQF Level 2 or 3 qualification (ANZSCO Skill Level 4), though at least two years of relevant experience can be accepted instead of formal qualifications.
