Job description
Role overview
The Gwich’in Renewable Resources Board (GRRB) is a co-management board based in Inuvik, Northwest Territories. It is looking for a driven full-time Fisheries Biologist to support management planning, provide technical guidance, strengthen relationships, and take part in consultation work connected primarily to fisheries, with some involvement in forestry management, across the Gwich’in Settlement Area (GSA).
Key responsibilities
The role centers on coordinating and supporting fisheries and forestry management activities for the GSA.
- Coordinate GRRB participation in fisheries and forestry management within the GSA, including helping create, review, and carry out management plans and the related consultation process.
- Keep an up-to-date record of fisheries and forestry research carried out in the GSA.
- Support the planning and coordination of yearly research priorities for fisheries and forestry.
- Offer technical advice to the Board, co-management partners, and government agencies working in the GSA.
- Create communication materials related to fisheries and forestry as required.
- Engage with Renewable Resources Councils, government bodies, and co-management partners on management programs and research projects in the GSA.
- Prepare clear, plain-language summaries of GRRB fisheries and forestry research for Renewable Resources Councils and the public.
Requirements
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in biology or a related science discipline.
- Prior work experience in the fisheries field.
- Ability to carry out fieldwork in remote locations.
- A valid NWT Class 5 driver’s licence, standard first aid certification, and a successful criminal records check before employment begins.
- Experience with renewable resources and the development of management plans.

Preference will be given to qualified Participants of the Gwich’in Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement and to residents of the Northwest Territories.
