Job description

Position Overview

This role is responsible for driving recruitment and enrollment activities within a specified territory. The counselor's primary focus is to guide prospective students, secondary schools, community colleges, and other relevant organizations by providing comprehensive information and personalized counseling about Elmhurst University. The goal is to attract and convert candidates through the enrollment pipeline effectively, contributing toward university enrollment objectives.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Establish and nurture relationships with prospective first-year and transfer students and their families, offering insights on university programs and advising on application and financial aid procedures.
  • Deliver presentations to groups on Elmhurst University's offerings, admissions process, and financial aid opportunities.
  • Organize and implement a schedule for outreach visits and communications within the assigned territory.
  • Make recommendations regarding admissions and scholarship awards within the designated area.
  • Maintain positive and professional relationships with contacts across the territory, applying strong customer service and sales methodologies.
  • Engage in university-hosted on-campus visitation events coordinated by the Admission Office.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to inquiries from prospective students and manage related correspondence.
  • Support enrollment supervisors by assisting with administrative and occasional clerical tasks.
  • Take ownership of additional roles such as coordinating student ambassadors, liaising with alumni admissions, or acting as a faculty liaison, as assigned.
  • Travel within the assigned territory while effectively managing resources.
  • Keep up to date on general admission practices and trends in higher education recruitment.
  • Use CRM tools to query data, track prospective students' progress, and make informed decisions based on enrollment analytics.
  • Execute recruitment strategies outlined in the annual recruitment plan to help reach territorial enrollment targets.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledgeable about private liberal arts higher education institutions and their mission.
  • Ability to positively represent the institution in a clear, organized, and accurate fashion.
  • Familiarity with admission, financial aid policies, and academic programs.
  • Adaptable and responsive to dynamic environments and changing priorities.
  • Willingness and capacity to travel extensively within district, state, and out-of-area regions for recruitment events.
  • Use of personal transportation for recruitment activities with reimbursement for associated costs.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends as required.

Working Environment and Physical Demands

The majority of responsibilities occur indoors, often requiring prolonged sitting. Essential communications happen through speaking and hearing in both face-to-face and virtual formats. Visual acuity for reading and screen viewing is necessary, along with fine motor skills for repetitive tasks. Periodic lifting or moving items up to 50 pounds may be required. Compensation

The expected salary range for this exempt position is between $42,000 and $46,000 annually, tailored to the candidate’s qualifications and department budget.
