Jensen Hughes has built a long-standing reputation in fire protection engineering and related risk and safety services since 1939. Its work now spans accessibility consulting, risk evaluation, process safety, forensic investigation, security risk advisory, emergency management, digital solutions, and more. The organization’s teams work together across the globe to help clients manage complex safety and security risks that affect people, assets, and reputation.

Role Overview

This Ireland-based opportunity is for a Fire Investigator to join a skilled forensic investigations team. The group handles investigations into the origin and cause of fires, explosions, and other accidents or failures on land and at sea across Ireland, the UK, and overseas. The work supports clients who need fast response, strong evidence, detailed reporting, and expert testimony that can stand up in court.

In forensic investigations, the work includes determining what caused an incident and assessing whether recovery from a third party may be possible or whether an insurance claim may be denied because contractual obligations were not met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Visit incident locations to inspect scenes, record findings, gather evidence, and speak with witnesses.
  • Take the lead on more complex matters involving the origin, cause, and progression of fire-related incidents.
  • Work with specialists and representatives from other interested parties during investigations.
  • Prepare precise, well-structured, and technically sound reports.
  • Deliver expert witness evidence when needed.
  • Keep case information updated in the company’s case management platform in line with service level requirements.
  • Take part in joint examinations and bring in specialist expertise where appropriate.
  • Continue building technical knowledge through professional development, training, independent research, and review of scientific publications and industry advances.
  • Participate in marketing activities when required.
  • Write and present articles or presentations for training and promotional use.
  • Represent the company at meetings and conferences in a professional ambassadorial capacity.

Requirements

  • Relevant experience and/or qualifications in fire investigation, fire engineering, forensic science, or a related discipline are needed.
  • Membership in a professional body is helpful but not mandatory.
  • Practical, hands-on experience is essential regardless of academic background.
  • Strong analytical thinking and a methodical scientific approach to examining incident scenes are required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary to present information clearly and accurately.
  • You should be highly attentive to detail, adaptable, and able to build effective working relationships with colleagues and clients.
  • Capability to work independently with limited supervision is important, while still knowing when to seek guidance from the team.
  • The role involves frequent travel at short notice across Ireland and the UK, with some overseas travel also possible.
  • A valid driving licence is required, and having your own car is preferred.

The position includes a competitive salary, a performance-based bonus, and other employee benefits.
