Role summary
This Ireland-based opportunity is for a Fire Investigator to join a skilled forensic investigation team. The role focuses on investigating the origin and cause of fires, explosions, and other incidents or failures on land and at sea. The team is known for delivering technically rigorous reports, strong evidence handling, and expert testimony for use in courts and other proceedings.
In a forensic investigation context, the work includes identifying what caused an event and assessing whether a claim may be recoverable from a third party or may be repudiated because the policyholder did not meet obligations under the insurance contract.
Key responsibilities
- Visit incident locations, secure and record evidence, and speak with witnesses as part of the investigation process.
- Lead investigations into the origin, cause, and progression of more complex fire and explosion cases.
- Coordinate with specialists and experts acting for other interested parties.
- Prepare detailed, accurate, and consistently high-standard technical reports.
- Provide expert witness input when required.
- Use the company’s case management platform to log all activity in line with service-level expectations.
- Take part in joint examinations and draw on specialist expertise where needed.
- Keep technical knowledge current through training, research, and review of scientific publications and field developments.
- Attend marketing events when needed.
- Create and deliver articles or presentations for training and marketing use.
- Represent the company at meetings and conferences as a professional ambassador.
Requirements
- Applicants should have relevant background through experience and/or qualifications in fire investigation, fire engineering, forensic science, or a closely related field.
- Professional body membership would be a plus, though it is not mandatory.
- Hands-on experience is essential regardless of academic route.
- Strong analytical ability and a disciplined, scientific approach to examining incident scenes are required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary, with the ability to present information clearly and without ambiguity.
- Strong attention to detail, flexibility, and the ability to build effective relationships with colleagues and clients are important.
- Candidates must be able to work independently with limited supervision, while still using internal support when needed.
- The job involves frequent travel at short notice across Ireland and the UK, with some overseas travel possible.
- A current driving licence is required, and owning a car is preferred.
