Job description
About the Role
Absa Group is seeking a Financial Control Officer in Zambia to help ensure financial transactions are recorded accurately and on time, following established standard operating procedures. This role sits within a long-standing African banking group with regional and international reach, and forms part of its wider career development culture.
What You Will Do
- Prepare journal entries for postings made to head office expense accounts and finance sundry payment accounts.
- Enter branch expenditure journals in SAP.
- Reconcile allocated SAP accounts so the balance sheet figures remain valid, checking entries from the opening take-on through to the reporting date.
- Support the General Ledger Controller with coordination of finance and broader business reconciliation spot-checks.
- Carry out analytical reviews of the income statement and balance sheet.
- Follow up with the payables accountant regarding items that need posting to clear payment suspense accounts.
- Distribute the profit and loss statement and balance sheet to the business on a daily basis as the primary owner.
- Code invoices received in the business reviewer queue each day.
- Review payment proposal items to confirm they are genuine and prevent duplicate payments.
- Assist with bulk payment preparation by the 15th and 25th of each month, where required.
- Step in to prepare regulatory reports, including the monthly prudential return, BA 610, quarterly publications, and RAFDA.
- Prepare weekly liquidity returns.
- Handle general tax compliance activities such as VAT, corporate tax, withholding tax, and PAYE processing, as applicable.
- Complete weekly mapping reviews and ensure a full month-end review so SAP and Brains remain fully aligned.
- Review month-end profit and loss and balance sheet figures before finalisation for Group reporting.
- Provide monthly support with selected inputs and entries.
- Support quarterly disclosure updates in Convergent.
