This opportunity is for an International Financial Accountant based in Union Street, London, with hybrid working that requires a minimum of three days per week in the office.
The role suits someone who is working toward an accounting qualification and has recent industry experience, particularly in credit control and VAT, along with a strong eye for detail.
Core responsibilities
- Support month-end and year-end close activities and assist with management reporting.
- Prepare weekly and monthly sales reports.
- Complete balance sheet reconciliations.
- Calculate sales commissions.
- Manage credit control activity.
- Prepare VAT returns.
- Handle customer payment queries.
- Support the year-end audit process.
- Work with the Finance Manager on ad hoc analysis and business reporting tasks.
- Partner with Accounts Payable on the allocation of customer receipts and related reconciliations.
- Follow company health, safety, quality, and environmental management requirements in day-to-day work.
Detailed duties
- Handle month-end and year-end tasks such as accruals, prepayments, fixed assets, foreign exchange journals, accounts payable reconciliations, and reporting for the Finance Manager.
- Produce regional sales reporting each week, including invoicing and backlog information, for sales leaders.
- Support month-end reporting through OPEX reviews, variance analysis against plan, and schedule preparation for reporting tool uploads.
- Prepare a complete balance sheet reconciliation pack for Finance Manager review in a timely manner.
- Carry out commission calculations for the Europe and APMEA regions, resolve follow-up questions, post accruals, and prepare payment packs for HR.
- Chase overdue customer balances, coordinate with sales leaders, send statements, and review accounts with the Finance Manager.
- Prepare and submit quarterly VAT returns, including monthly reconciliations.
- Help prepare the year-end audit pack and complete other year-end duties as needed.
- Review customer accounts regularly to maintain accuracy, appropriate ageing, and audit support.
Requirements
- Working toward an accounting qualification, with recent relevant industry experience.
- Strong understanding of credit control and VAT processes.
- Solid Excel ability.
- Good grasp of double-entry bookkeeping.
- Experience working in a multi-currency environment.
- Prior experience preparing VAT returns.
- Ability to work independently and use initiative.
- Comfortable working to deadlines and prioritising tasks effectively.
- Willingness to contribute to a progressive finance team and develop professionally.
- Compliance with health and safety, quality, environmental, systems, processes, certification schemes, regulations, and legislation relevant to the role.
