Job description
About Contact Energy
Contact is focused on helping shape a better future for Aotearoa through energy transition, renewable investment, and connected ways of working. Alongside power, broadband, and mobile services, the business is committed to leaving the country better than it found it.
The company’s approach is guided by tikanga and a strong sense of care for people, communities, and the work being done. Finance is a key enabler of that mission, supporting disciplined reporting, planning, and decision-making with clarity and integrity.
Role overview
This Finance Analyst position is a broad finance role with a strong emphasis on core accounting. The role is responsible for producing dependable financial outputs and also contributing to planning, forecasting, and other finance activities as business needs change.
You will work within a connected finance function that spans planning, reporting, compliance, risk, and strategic work, gaining exposure to how these areas combine to support the organisation’s strategy.
What you will do
- Prepare month-end outputs, financial reports, and compliance deliverables with a strong focus on accuracy and quality.
- Support planning and forecasting processes, and help shape performance reporting and business insight.
- Translate financial information into clear analysis that supports decision-making.
- Work alongside team leads and initiative owners to provide dependable finance support.
- Move between different finance tasks and priorities as business needs evolve.
- Develop strong working relationships across Finance and the wider business through effective communication.
- As experience grows, contribute to finance-related projects and areas such as investment analysis, risk, and assurance.
What you will bring
You are likely to have a solid base in financial accounting and be ready for a role that gives broader exposure to finance and business decision-making. You value structure and accuracy, but you also want to understand the story behind the numbers.
- About 3 years of experience in financial accounting, with audit experience seen as an advantage.
- A strong understanding of reporting, controls, and compliance.
- Ability to interpret financial performance and communicate findings clearly.
- Confidence working with stakeholders and building trusted relationships.
- A proactive, flexible mindset and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- A Chartered Accountant qualification, or progress toward one.
