Job description
Overview
This role involves inspecting, gathering, recording, and analyzing residential field assessment data within Marion County. The specialist ensures all property information is accurately measured and entered into the property tax system promptly to support the Assessment Division and other city/county agencies.
The position operates under established Indiana laws and IAAO standards, requiring independent judgment within supervisory guidance, especially when policies are absent. Routine tasks follow standard procedures. A valid driver's license is mandatory. The role reports to the Residential District Manager.

Key Responsibilities
- Assess all Marion County residential property per Indiana law, DLGF mandates, and IAAO standards.
- Conduct quality control to verify accurate processing of residential property changes.
- Interpret site plans and construction blueprints for properties.
- Coordinate property access with taxpayers or their representatives.
- Collaborate with GIS, permit, zoning departments, and other agencies as needed.
- Organize scheduling, routing, and workload priorities for assigned parcels.
- Provide professional assistance to visitors, callers, and field personnel.
- Maintain confidentiality consistently.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent with at least one year of relevant work experience.
- DLGF Level II Assessor/Appraiser Certification required or commitment to obtain within 12 months.
- Proficiency in project management, computer applications, mathematics, geometry, and communication.
- Experience with imaging systems and related software.
- Ability to serve customers courteously via multiple communication channels.
- Detail-oriented with report writing and effective oral and written communication skills.
- All activities must comply with applicable state laws.
- Bilingual skills are preferred.
Working Conditions
Approximately 50% of duties occur in a standard office setting. The other 50% require travel and outdoor work, often exposed to adverse weather conditions.
Physical Requirements
- Sitting at a desk the majority of the workday.
- Lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling light objects weighing 5-10 pounds.
- Extended keyboard or workstation use.
- Ability to perceive auditory and visual cues.
