Job description
Overview
This role involves inspecting, collecting, recording, and analyzing data related to residential field assessments throughout Marion County. The specialist will ensure residential field data is accurately measured and promptly entered into the property tax database for use by the Assessment Division and other city and county agencies.

Position Responsibilities
- Ensure all residential properties in Marion County are assessed in compliance with Indiana laws, Department of Local Government Finance (DLGF) regulations, and International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO) standards.
- Perform quality control on previously assessed properties, confirming all changes such as additions or deletions are correctly processed for residential parcels.
- Review and interpret site plans and construction blueprints for residential properties.
- Coordinate with taxpayers or their representatives to obtain property access as necessary.
- Collaborate with GIS, permit, zoning departments, and other governmental entities.
- Plan and prioritize routes and workloads for assigned parcels effectively.
- Provide professional assistance to visitors, telephone inquiries, and field contacts involving managers or subordinates.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of information at all times.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by management to support the office functions.
Qualifications and Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent with at least one year of relevant work experience.
- Must hold or obtain within 12 months the DLGF Level II Assessor/Appraiser Certification.
- Proficient in project management, computer use, mathematics, geometry, and communication skills.
- Familiarity with imaging systems and related software is necessary.
- Ability to professionally assist customers in person, via email, or telephone.
- Detail-oriented with skills to type, generate, edit reports, and communicate effectively in writing and orally.
- All duties must comply with applicable state laws.
- Bilingual capabilities are preferred but not required.
Working Conditions
The role involves approximately 50% office-based work under standard conditions and 50% travel for outdoor fieldwork with potential exposure to adverse weather or environmental situations.
Physical Requirements
- Predominantly desk-based with extended keyboard or workstation periods.
- Involves light physical tasks such as lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects between 5 to 10 pounds.
- Requires ability to perceive auditory and visual cues and communicate verbally.
