Overview
Join the Department of Primary Industries in Queensland as a Farmhand supporting advanced agricultural research projects. This role involves hands-on assistance with research, plant and equipment management, and field agronomy within a dynamic farm research environment located in the Ruhr Region.
Core Duties
- Support research initiatives by precisely operating, adjusting, and calibrating farming machinery and specialist equipment including fertilizer and chemical applicators, tillage tools, drones for research activities, and autonomous farming vehicles.
- Conduct essential agronomic activities such as land preparation, irrigation system installation and operation, planting, crop harvesting, and chemical treatments, ensuring optimal care of horticultural and grain crop varieties.
- Work both independently and collaboratively under guidance from the Farm Supervisor or Research Facility Manager to successfully accomplish assigned tasks aiding research objectives.
- Carry out technical and operational support related to maintenance for heavy machinery, vehicles, equipment, infrastructure, and land assets to keep them ready for research use, safe, reliable, and fully functional.
- Complete assigned responsibilities diligently, demonstrating initiative and maintaining a high standard of accuracy and quality.
Additional Requirements & Physical Duties
- Obtain Chemical accreditation (Chemcert) within 12 to 24 months of employment, with support provided.
- Possess extensive experience operating farm and heavy equipment, specifically with GPS technology and power take-off (PTO) attachments.
- Perform physical activities safely in accordance with health and safety regulations including lifting (up to 15 kg), carrying, kneeling, squatting, and navigating various terrain types such as flat, sloped, or uneven ground.
- Handle different chemicals and work under various outdoor weather conditions.
- Maintain compliance with workplace safety and operational procedures throughout daily duties.
