About the Role

Join the Queensland Government as a Farmhand and contribute meaningfully to the future of Queensland’s agricultural legacy. This role allows you to engage in rewarding agricultural and agronomic activities, working both independently and collaboratively with colleagues and clients to support vital research projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support research initiatives by precisely operating, adjusting, and calibrating various farm equipment including fertilizer and chemical application tools, tillage machinery, and specialized research devices. Participate in digital agriculture efforts such as drone operations for research and autonomous vehicle use in farming tasks.
  • Carry out critical agronomic duties such as land preparation, irrigation installation and management, planting, harvesting, and application of chemicals; maintain horticultural and grain crops with care.
  • Work independently or alongside the Farm Supervisor and Research Facility Manager, following instructions to complete tasks that facilitate research project success.
  • Offer technical and operational assistance for maintaining heavy machinery, vehicles, research equipment, infrastructure, and land assets, ensuring they remain operational, safe, and ready for research usage.
  • Demonstrate responsibility and initiative by completing assigned duties meticulously and to a high standard.

Additional Requirements & Conditions

  • Chemical accreditation (Chemcert) is desirable and should be obtained within 12–24 months of employment, with support provided.
  • Extensive experience operating farm and heavy machinery with GPS capabilities and PTO attachments is essential.
  • The role requires performing physical tasks in compliance with workplace health and safety guidelines, including manual handling such as lifting up to 15 kg, carrying, kneeling, squatting, walking over various terrains, working with chemicals, and enduring variable outdoor climates.
  • Candidates must be physically able to safely perform these duties.
