About The Family Stores
The Salvation Army manages over 130 Family Stores offering a variety of quality donated items including clothing, furniture, linen, and homeware. These stores provide a dynamic retail environment where each day brings different customers, donation volumes, and merchandise to process.
Role Overview
This position plays an essential part in the store’s success by delivering excellent customer and donor experiences that encourage return visits. The role requires adaptability to switch between customer service on the sales floor and handling stock processing duties in a fast-paced, high-volume setting. Collaboration and team coordination are key to meeting store goals and targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver outstanding service to both customers and donors.
- Receive, sort, price, and display donated goods effectively.
- Handle sales transactions and cash management accurately, including end-of-day reconciliation.
- Maintain store presentation by ensuring it is neat, well-stocked, and organized.
- Adhere to store policies, health and safety standards, and audit procedures.
- Support a positive team environment and assist with general store duties as needed.
Person Specification
- Strong customer service abilities with sound judgement to defuse challenging situations when necessary.
- Resilient, positive, team-oriented, and capable of connecting with a diverse clientele.
- Physically fit to perform regular lifting as part of daily tasks.
- Familiarity with retail technology, including point of sale systems and tablets.
- Self-disciplined with effective time management and prioritization skills under pressure.
- Clear communicator in both spoken and written form.
- Holds ethical values, acting respectfully, honestly, and transparently to build trust aligned with The Salvation Army’s principles.
- Able to follow procedures yet exercise sound judgement when initiative is required.
- Legal authorization to work in New Zealand; employment contingent on satisfactory Ministry of Justice clearance.
Additional Information
- Permanent part-time position with 32 hours per week; may require working a rotating schedule Monday through Saturday, including some public holidays.
- Hourly wage starts at $28.95.
- Applicants with certain convictions must provide exemption certificates or undergo assessments per Children’s Act 2014 regulations.
